One of the perks of being a celebrity is that no matter what you want to do and where you want to go, there is someone willing to drive you in the privacy of an air-conditioned car, without any pesky commoners invading your personal, famous bubble. That is why it is kind of awesome when a celebrity is spotted riding public transportation. How normal! For instance, Jay-Z hopped the R train from his digs in Manhattan’s posh Tribeca ‘hood to Brooklyn this weekend for his last concert at the new Barclays Center. (Certain beyotches named Amelia were in the audience. Madly jealous. Sore subject.) Of course Jay was accompanied by plainclothes cops and his own security team. It’s not like he rides the subway like us normal folks. [MissInfo.tv]
In addition to being better for the environment, public transportation is often more efficient and quicker than fighting traffic. Plus, it’s just kind cool to see celebs “out in the wild,” clutching filthy subway poles and giving the stink eye to rude multi-seat hoggers with the rest of us. Here are a bunch more celebs spotted on public transpo!
I’m a lucky girl. Over the last, oh, 10 days, I think I’ve said, “This is the best day of my life!” at least a handful of times. First, when Wil Wheaton posted a link to my essay on writing “Star Trek” fanfic on his blog and said it was “fantastic.” Then again, when I went to an event featuring Cheryl Strayed, author of Tiny Beautiful Things and Wild. And again, when I went to hear Zadie Smith read from her new book, NW. Friday was another best day ever, as I had two psychic readings, both of which promised similar blessings ahead.
Saturday was the latest in this string of awesomely memorable days, because I went to see Jay-Z perform at Barclays Center (where his Brooklyn Nets will be playing). I’m already a longtime Jay-Z fan, but I was especially psyched because I had a gut feeling that if there was going to be a night when wife Beyonce would get up on stage with him, it would be this one, because A) it was the final night and B) the show was streaming live online. Turns out, my gut was right. Keep reading »
This is a picture of Rihanna on her way to a big party for Jay-Z Thursday night. Rihanna, Jay and the rest were celebrating the opening of Jay-Z’s new Barclay Center, a performing arts and sports stadium in Brooklyn. We’re all for celebrating, but we’re a bit more on the fence about Rihanna’s matchy-matchy outfit. It strikes us as just a tad bit Palm-Beach-Florida-Cheesecake-On-The-Lanai for our taste. Really, Ri-Ri, no need to dress like a “Golden Girl” just yet. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
This is one of those moments where technology was used in the most appropriate way possible. Earlier this week, Jay-Z and Beyonce hosted an Obama reelection fundraiser at the 40/40 Club. Beyonce said lots of nice things about the POTUS, people drank lots of top shelf champagne and wrote fatty checks and someone snapped a picture of this moment, which was forever immortalized on Obama’s Twitter feed with the caption: “A couple of supporters in a New York state of mind last night.” I want to know what they’re talking about. Looks like the best convo ever. Not fair. But seriously, Bey and Jay need to stop taking dream life snapshots. I’m getting jealz. [WOW]
Baby’s first yacht vacay! Jay-Z and Beyonce’s infant daughter Blue Ivy enjoyed her first sail on the high seas — okay, they were on the Mediterranean Sea off the South of France, but still. Tres tres chic!
Listen, Beyonce, I got the memo, like, months ago. Your life is better than mine. You don’t need to continue posting photos to your Tumblr to prove it. You know I can’t stop myself from looking and then I get depressed — that I don’t have a stylish sister like Solange, that I don’t look as good in cowboy boots, that Jay-Z is not pushing me on a swing hung from a tree. It’s so unfair. [via iam.beyonce.com]
You know, people kind of look at me like I’m, like, crazy or something when I wear my RYGOS ring, but I could show my devotion to my one true love in more extreme ways. Like Beyonce, who posted this photo to her Tumblr this weekend. Her manicure features photos of her and hubby Jay-Z, a J on one nail, a Z on the other, and the Roman numeral IV on her pinky, which is both a reference to her most recent album and daughter Blue Ivy (IV, get it?). So, you know, I pale in comparison or whatever. [I Am Beyonce]
UPDATE: J/K! Apparently, these are not Beyonce’s nails. They are a fan’s nails that Beyonce loved so much that she posted them to her Tumblr. Anyways… [Dlisted]
