T-minus 18 days until the Oscars and, of course, we are all starting to place bets on who we think will walk away with little golden men this year. Luckily, the Academy has proven itself to be pretty darn predictable over the years. If you’re America’s Sweetheart, you’ll probably win Best Actress. If you sings in a flick, you are almost guaranteed Oscar gold. But there’s another trend we’ve been noticing lately: the winners for Best Actress and Best Actor tend to be the person who’s taken on the based-on-a-true-story role. Jamie Foxx: The “American Idol” Dream Mentor

I always forget what a big crush I have on Jamie Foxx. I was all smitten again last night when he came back as an “American Idol” mentor for Movie Week. Yes, he’s mega-hot and multi-talented, but what makes him a great mentor is how much he cares about the success of the contestants. The guy genuinely gives a crap that they connect to the song, the audience, and their artistry. He even got them all shirts that said “Contestant” and “Artist” and challenged them to earn the “Artist” shirt with their performance. Awww. In his mentor session with Casey James, he urged James to look into his eyes and seduce him while singing “Mrs. Robinson.” (Clearly chosen for Kara DioGuardi’s benefit.) Now that’s going the distance! Unfortunately, the best thing about last night’s show was foxy Foxx—the performances were kind of meh with the exception of Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox’s duet of “Falling Slowly” from the movie “Once.” I predict those two will be battling it out for the top spot this season. Jamie Foxx Writing The Script For “Laverne And Shirley” Movie Adaptation

“Sclemeel, schlemazel, hasenfeffer incorporated. We’re gonna do it!” Well, actually Garry Marshall is going to do it — direct a movie adaptation of the classic TV show “Laverne and Shirley,” that is. For those of us old enough to remember enjoying the “Happy Days” spin-off when it originally aired from 1976 to 1983, or who caught it in syndication in the decades that have followed, this may come as good news. Or not. After all, when are movie versions of TV shows ever done well? And when I tell you that Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel are tapped to play the title characters, respectively, the news may make you shudder even more. But there’s a twist! The script is being written by the multi-talented Jamie Foxx, which makes me wonder if they might be able to pull this thing off yet. Time will tell, I guess. Still, I know Marshall could do better than casting Garner and Biel. Who would you like to see play Laverne and Shirley instead? TVGuide suggests Chloe Sevigny as Laverne and Ginnfer Goodwin as Shirley, which sounds like a good bet. OMG! What about Angelina Jolie as Laverne and Jennifer Aniston as Shirley? I’d pay to see that.   • Though we haven’t even given Michael Jackson enough time to rise from the dead like Jesus, there are already talks of a Michael Jackson biopic. Different methods are being considered like using archive and live -show footage or maybe having Jamie Foxx play young Jackson and Johnny Depp play um, white Jackson. I’m not sure how politically correct that scenario would be but God I would love to see them try to pull it off! [PopCrunch]
