Jake N’ Maggie, Plus Other Siblings Who’ve Been Nominated For Oscars
Jake Gyllenhaal has been through the Oscar nomination rigamarole—he got a nod in 2006 for “Brokeback Mountain.” So he knows exactly what sister Maggie, who was just nominated for Best Supporting Actress in “Crazy Heart,” feels. He was on hand when Maggie’s phone started ringing off the hook the morning nominations were announced. After a bit, Maggie wanted to go back to bed. “Don’t go back to sleep, this is amazing!” said Jake. “Have a coffee with me, and I’ll make you pancakes.”
Now that it’s been a few days, Jake has given Maggie some advice. She told People, “He said, ‘It’s a lot of fun, and enjoy it in that spirit. If you make it too much more than that, you’ll probably go astray.’” Interestingly, their mama Naomi also had her Oscar moment—in 1988 she got a Best Screenplay nomination.

In Touch is reporting that in an effort to woo Reese Witherspoon back, ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal sent her $75,000 in vintage dinnerware as a Christmas gift. ““He isn’t giving up without a fight,” a friend of his tells In Touch. I don’t know who this says more about — Reese or Jake — that he thought a bunch of expensive old plates would win back her heart. I mean, can you just hear it? Reese: “Well, I really thought it was over. He moved out. We spent the holidays apart. I explained to the kids that he wouldn’t be around anymore. But then I got a box of old plates. From France! And now I’m just not sure where things stand …”
