Irina Lazareanu Is The Newest Model Turned Designer

There are models we know simply for their bodies and faces and models we know for their personal style as much as their physical appearance. Irina Lazareanu falls into the second category. She’s definitely been successful as a model, but she’s been even more influential as a personality and trendsetter. She didn’t just walk in the Chanel cruise show last year; she sang in it. Perhaps that’s why we didn’t groan when we heard that she’ll be trying her hand as a designer. Rini by Irinia, which will launch in Japan in September, promises to channel vintage style in much the same way that Irina herself does. The Bowl Cut Is Back! (Cue Screams Of Terror)

Maybe it was the triumphant return of formerly long-haired supermodel Irina Lazareanu (above) to the spring 2010 runway alongside other bowled-over mannequins, actresses like Kelly Osbourne sporting the look, or just numerous hip, beautiful young things roaming around N.Y.C. and L.A. … but we can ignore this insidious haircut no longer. It seemingly knows no gender bounds, and it’s personal to those of us who suffered this traumatizing fate back in the day: Once upon a time, your mom got sick of chasing you around to detangle your scraggly hair so, exasperated, she plopped a cereal bowl on your head, trimmed your glorious locks around the edges, and, yes, you still had to go to school the next day. (Shudder.) Of course, the look is far more chic if you meant for it to look that way. But we have to wonder if only models, rock stars (Karen O. always manages to make it work) and the most stylish of the fashionable set among us can pull it off?
