This weekend, the Barack Obama Facebook page posted this picture of the first couple attending a Veteran’s Day ceremony. My friend Molly immediately sent me the link along with the message, “What is Michelle wearing?! I want it!” I did some sleuthing (and by “sleuthing” I mean I went to the awesome website “Mrs. O,” which tirelessly chronicles all of Michelle’s fashion choices, and typed in “striped sweater”) and found out the photo is actually from last year, and the divine Miss O’s sweater is a Sonia Rykiel creation that’s no longer available. One night during our weekend in Nashville, my boyfriend Nick and I staggered back to our hotel in the rain after eating a huge meal. We immediately collapsed on the bed, and Nick reached for the remote. Nick has a habit of watching the most random TV shows whenever we’re staying in a hotel, and this time he didn’t disappoint: he flipped through the channels and finally settled on a half-over rerun of “The Good Wife.” “Nick, come on!” I objected, “We’ve never even seen a full episode of this show!” But by the time I had finished my sentence I’d been sucked into the legal drama, and 20 minutes later we were like, “Cool! Let’s watch this all the time!”
The show is overflowing with rich, fashionable lawyers, but one of my favorite characters (and wardrobes) is Kalinda, a private investigator who favors dark leather and military details. I’m not a big fan of summer camp. Probably because the one time I went to summer camp every other camper in my cabin got violently ill, I had to deflect projectile vomit with my sleeping bag, the counselors vaguely accused me of poisoning everyone, and–unrelated but just as tragic–my favorite soccer shorts got swept down the river, never to be seen again.
