HUDSON: Denim You Can Tolerate In The Summer

Even if you’re a die-hard jeans girl 10 months out of the year, when summer arrives, heavy denim is probably the last thing you reach for. But HUDSON jeans’ spring/summer 2011 collection is denim you can actually tolerate in the heat. Inspired by the culture of Dogtown and Venice, CA in the ’70s, the collection is laid-back, but also has a European edge. The jeans are made of lightweight denim that has been softened and come in faded red, pink, yellow hues. But even if colored denim isn’t your thing, HUDSON jeans are also available in light and medium wash blue and white–in styles ranging from skinny to shorts to flare to cropped. HUDSON continues to play with the DIY elements, like repair stitches, frayed edges, exposed button flies, and distressed holes, I loved last year. But the two jean styles that grabbed my attention were a pair of red cropped jeans and pair of white “N.1 AXL” skinny jeans with leather lacing along the back of the calf, from the HUDSON by Georgia-May Jagger collaboration. Georgia May Jagger Told To Suck In Her Non-Existent Stomach

Hudson Jeans released video from their photo shoot with Georgia Jagger — you know, Mick Jagger‘s daughter? — and it’s your typical soft core hawtness. But if you listen closely, 19 seconds in you can hear the photographer telling Georgia, “Suck in your tummy a little?” Um, maybe my vision is going to pot in my old age, but this model does not have a tummy. HUDSON D.I.Y. Capsule Collection: How To Mix Designer Jeans With Lower-End Items

Hudson jeans, designed by Ben Taverniti, is gearing up to launch four capsule collections this April and May at Barneys New York, Jeffrey, and other boutiques. The four collections offer something for everyone: the “Minimalist” reduces jeans back to the purest and simplest state but has quilting accents to add depth; “Resurrection” offers recycled Hudson denim that is cut and re-engineered into new, one-of-a-kind pairs; and the “Subversion” adds of-the-moment military-inspired details, like cargo pockets, to skinny jeans. But my favorite new Hudson collection this season is “D.I.Y.”

The “D.I.Y.” jeans are meant to look as if you took apart a pair of everyday jeans and hand-styled and re-sewed them into something completely different. They have exposed flies, cut waistbands, holes, and zippers that run up the thighs. I have a pair with exposed darts running down the back of my thighs, and this is the first time I’ve seen a sexy detail like this in denim. Although the jeans run about $995 for the “Resurrection” collection and between $215 and $325 for the others, they’re investment pieces that you’ll wear repeatedly because of their unique construction and quality fabric. And just because Hudson jeans cost a pretty penny doesn’t mean everything you wear them with has to be designer. Check out how I styled my pair with lower-end items that were already in my wardrobe. Is The Baby Boot Cut Coming Back?

Out of all areas of fashion, denim is perhaps the least predictable. Back in 2003, would you even dream of wearing non-flared jeans? (Back then, asking for a straight leg cut might as well have been asking to go shopping in your mom’s closet.) And just when you thought that baggy could never, ever be “da bomb” again, boyfriend jeans came back in full force last year. And acid wash as glorified by American Apparel? Apparently, that wasn’t a joke.

With some new spring arrivals, we’re now wondering if the “baby boot cut” with heels combo is about to make it back into the mainstream …

Mick Jagger’s 17-Year-Old Daughter Would Like To Discuss Her Pants With You

Remember when we called attention to the fact that AgencySpy was very against the idea of 17-year-old rock/model spawn Georgia Jagger and her topless Hudson Jeans campaign? (Ah, like it was yesterday.) Now there’s a very, well, “erotic” might be the best way of putting it, video making the rounds that is extremely humorous if you love to make fun of kooky fashion ads and, well, let’s just say it’s controversial in other ways too. Check it out and let’s discuss immediately. Keep reading »

Georgia Jagger Controversy: Should Teens Ever Appear Topless In Ads?

Agency Spy is taking issue with Hudson Jeans’s latest ad campaign, featuring 17-year-old Georgia Jagger, daughter of rock god Mick and supermodel Jerry Hall. Appearing topless (minus nipple action, however), the teenager models the jeans as she lounges in a seductive position. Agency Spy denounces the photo because young girls “are off limits when it comes to sexual references in advertising. This kind of work perpetuates the notion that children and sex somehow fit into the same category, which they clearly do not.” Keep reading »
