Queen Latifah has possessed a powerful image since the 1980s. Who can forget the impact of a female MC donning queen-like garb — leather Africa medallions, Nefertiti-esque hats, and other Afro-centric attire? See this incredible lady — and her incredible necklace — above? That’s fashion icon and interior designer Iris Apfel. And soon, you’ll be able to own a tiny piece of her sartorial splendor when she launches her very own line of costume jewelry for the Home Shopping Network. Her HSN line will be called Rara Avis by Iris Apfel and will range in price from $20 to $180. Iris says the collection is inspired by both modern and vintage pieces and will be made from Lucite, metals, and beads. “I have amassed an enormous collection of bags, belts, bangles and beads without which I would be lost.,” she explained. “One can change the entire look of an outfit by substituting one accessory for another. I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately, so I’ve been watching a lot of late night TV. HSN, formerly Home Shoppers Network, has become one of my favorite networks because the sales are always a surprise. Sure, the hosts sell a lot of mattresses and frumpy clothing, but oftentimes, the jewelry is rather genius. HSN hipped me to stainless steel jewelry that is cute and affordable.
