Nothing will cause you to reevaluate your beauty product stash more than attempting to organize the usually prodigious, crummy mess. Even the most meticulous chick will admit to hiding a hot mess of broken eye shadows, four-year-old hot pink lipsticks and almost empty hairspray somewhere under her cupboard. One of our favorite trends from the fall 2010 runways was the plethora of easy-going hairstyles
. The epic, totally un-doable up-do was an unusual sight as high-maintenance hair faded into the distant fashion past. Even the most complicated styles rarely involved more than a little mousse and a rubber band! Check out the video above for a five-minute hairstyle stolen straight from Preen’s runway show
and explained by stylist Luke Hersheson, the dude who first thought of the look. [Modelinia

Perhaps it’s a result of working around the coolest stylists and designers in the world, but models are just as much trend setters as they are clothes hangers. Leggings and combat boots? Models were doing that long before the rest of us. Laid-back makeup and messy hair? That was a look amongst the lovelies even before a bevy of designers decided to put it on the runway this past season. The mannequin-obsessed blog Modelinia knows all about the power of the model in setting styles and they’re helping the rest of us catch up with model style before it’s a full-blown trend. Check out their “Shop Her Style” posts for ideas ripped straight from models on the street. [Modelinia] Keep reading »
Every time I go to Sephora to get some concealer in an attempt to cover up my under-eye zombie circles, some perky salesgirl tries to convince me that I can’t possibly apply said concealer without an army of extra brushes. Find out which four brushes will get you through every makeup situation, after the jump. Keep reading »
We’ve officially entered that odd, in-between season where temperatures hover between the mid 40s to 60s and make navigating jacket selection an obnoxiously difficult task. We should be wearing medium-weight toppers, trenches and leathers. Instead, however, I look around and see droves of women in too-heavy woolens and too-light cottons, apparently having decided to ignore pre-spring jackets entirely. Sorry to be a stickler, but this sort of outerwear behavior is totally unacceptable. Every girl needs a coat for the in-between times, and we’ll help you pick out the right one after the jump. I’ve just zipped a carry-on-sized suitcase that holds all the contents necessary for me to look presentable (maybe even good!) for nine days. Bow to me, gods of efficient packing, because my days of checking two huge bags for a one-week trip are dead and gone. Read on to learn how to pack like
an OCD organizer a pro for your next vacation.
- Choose pieces that complement one another both in color and in style. That means choose a color scheme and stick to it, but also choose a general look so that pretty much any and every piece can be mixed and matched. This should be easy for those of you who are more consistent in your dressing, but for those of us who are fans of dress-up days and odd outfits, it can be more of a challenge.
- You get one statement piece, so choose wisely. Something like a great skirt or jacket is better than a dress because it can be mixed in with a handful of the other pieces you’re bringing, in case you need to repeat.
