HBO’s “How To Make It In America” Apparel Is Definitely Not Vintage

Been watching “How to Make it in America”? In this week’s episode, the adorable Ben Epstein (Note—no relation, tee hee) and his friend Cam finally got one of their fashion schemes off the ground, completing an order of screenprinted vintage tees. The design, which Ben came up with in high school, reads “New York Eats Its Young.” Pretty catchy and stylish. Want one? Turns out, you can get one from the HBO online store … just don’t count on it looking even half as cool as it does on Ben Epstein’s back, or remotely vintage. HBO’s version comes across as a cleaned-up, too-new translation of something that’s supposed to have some urban wear to it. Cool New Show Alert: “How To Make It In America”


HBO series hold a special place in my TV-loving heart, from “The Sopranos” to “True Blood” to “Bored to Death.” So I’m pretty excited for the network’s latest, “How To Make It In America,” which tells the story of two (mighty cute) Brooklyn dudes trying to make it in the New York fashion world using their street smarts, or lack thereof. The show is from the team that created “Entourage,” which bodes well. Plus, it’s got very cool co-stars, like Lake Bell of “The Practice” and “Boston Legal” and Shannyn Sossamon, who we haven’t seen much of since “A Knight’s Tale.” The main dude in the show is Bryan Greenberg, the waaaay hot brother in that terrible movie “Bride Wars.” Oh, and since it premieres on Feb. 14 at 10 p.m., it’s a good low-key Valentine’s Day alternative.
