When I was in high school, I went to a dance with a guy I wasn’t interested in. As my own little act of rebellion, I painted my nails a color called Toad—maybe I was trying to repel him?
Fast forward to last night. I was in the checkout line at an Urban Outfitters, and there was a container full of fall nail polish colors. There was a navy blue, some browns, and the olive green you see above. I decided I needed something to replace the neon shades I’ve been wearing all summer and impulse-bought the olive. Was it a mistake? Tell me if you think green polish is awesome or as repulsive as a toad.
Long hair is a major trend for young men these days, with Kate Hudson’s son, Ryder, as its poster child. Personally, I think little boys with long hair look like girls, but once they’ve gone through puberty, that’s another story (Smith Jerrod on SATC before he shaved his head, anyone?). Amelia and I were discussing how guys with longish hair (shoulder length or shorter) can be very attractive, as long as they take care of it. I asked a friend of mine who has long hair for his rationale for growing his hair out. “I never set out to ‘have long hair,’ I just stopped getting it cut,” he said. “I liked it more and more the longer it got—it just kind of “fit” (And it became much more practical when it got to ponytail length.) Most guys who find long hair appealing already have the requisite style and personality to pull it of, so it usually works out. Oh, and the ladies love it. Really.”
What do you think about guys with long hair? And is there an age after which it becomes unacceptable for a guy to have longer hair? Tell us what you think in the comments. [Chicago Tribune]
A group of mathematicians at Tel Aviv University in Israel, have programmed a computer to determine whether a woman is hot or not. The students asked a sampling of 30 people to judge 100 faces of young ladies. From their responses, the students graphed the facial features so the computer would be able to interpret the scoring, from symmetry to skin quality. This advancement in technology means that now even a computer can reject you. Great. But it also begs the question, can math nerd beggars really be choosers? [about:blank]
It seems like every young female celeb—from Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale, to Nicole Ritchie and Jessica Alba—has been spotted in gladiator sandals. But like another footwear trend that started in Hollywood and spread across the country like the plague (Uggs), we’re not sure we want these shoes to leave California. Yet gladiators are hitting stores from Gap to Urban Outfitters. While they make a statement, why do we need that kind of ankle support if we’re not fighting for our lives in a colosseum?
We’re big freaks for tights here at The Frisky—no matter the pattern, chances are Amelia, Catherine, Simcha, and Emily are rocking a pair at least three days out of the week (during the winter, of course). But what about leather (or lame and latex) leggings and tights? The leg wear has been seen on everyone from Lindsay Lohan to Frisky Patron Saint Rihanna, but our normally adventurous stems can’t quite wrap get with the Jazzercize look. Catherine says she only finds them acceptable on Rihanna, because she’s the awesomest, but finds them unwearable on regular folk. What do you think? Also, what happens if you get all sweaty in them? We’re reminded of that episode of Friends when Ross wears leather pants on a date and then can’t get out of them because he’s so sweaty, eventually dumping talcum powder all over himself while hiding in the bathroom. So funny. [My Fashion Life]
