Shopping Guide: Sexy Sheer & Lace Tights

Sometimes all an outfit needs to ramp up the sex appeal is a pair of great sheer tights or hosiery. Highlight your incredible gams with one of the lacy, sexy or sheer pairs we’ve found.

Sexy Style Stealer: Suspender Tights

Am I the only person out there who thinks that semi-opaque black tights are worlds sexier than bare legs? I know, it’s weird, but the sheer fact of hosiery is sexy in and of itself. Black tights are slimming, warm for the cooler seasons, and can pull any look together in a matter of seconds. Admittedly, they can get a little boring. I should know — I sport black tights almost daily, with no signs of ever stopping. It seems that celebs like Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez have found the perfect solution to black tights doldrums, and it’s certainly a step up in sexy. Suspender tights are the newest gotta-have-’em garment, opaque to the thigh then sheer with a garter-like detail. I’m loving the look, but I don’t know if my thick thighs are up to the task … but hey, Rihanna represents thick-thighed girls everywhere, and she looks damn good in them. What’s your opinion? If you must have a pair, click on — I’ll point you in the right direction. As for me, I’m not buying them online right now, except for the part where I totally am, whatever.

The Hose Knows

Recently, a big stink has been made about Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, bringing back nude hosiery. Now, you couldn’t pay me a million spacebucks to wear nude pantyhose — it freaks me out and reminds me of my 5th grade teacher Bobbie Jo Hibben who was obsessed with matching every aspect of her outfit. But the trend did pique my interest enough to check out the line that Ms. Middleton is supposedly rocking. Italian brand Philippe Matignon is not yet launched in the U.S., but the brand can be found at Urban Outfitters and select retailers — and they’ve just launched a collection of sheer stockings and socks. We fell in love with these thigh-high fishnets, and can’t wait until we’re able to purchase more from the collection when their U.S. retail site goes live on September 1. Middleton’s nude look notwithstanding, Matignon is here to stay.

Infographic: What Your Hosiery Says About You

Hosiery used to be something many women hated having to wear to the office, when nude pantyhose were the primary option. But now tights in every color, pattern, and texture imaginable are both trendy and readily available, and wearing them no longer seems like a chore. (Unless, of course, it’s February and you are just dying for the bare-legged warmth of spring.) The Wall Street Journal put together this handy little matrix of different types of hosiery, breaking down which are sexy or sensible, and party- or office-appropriate. [WSJ] Keep reading »

Bootights Make Winter Dressing Easy

Oprah said Bootights will revolutionize your closet, and we can’t agree more. This special legwear eliminates the need to wear socks over your tights because the sock is built right in. But no one will see your socks when you wear ankle, mid-calf, knee-high, or over-the-knee boots. Bootights are available in a variety of colors and textures, so your style doesn’t have to suffer. We’re happy not to suffer squished toes for warmth this winter.

Wear Fishnets Without Looking Like A Prostitute

The first two things that come to mind when I think of fishnet tights are hookers and Halloween. These associations were challenged today when I saw a chic middle-aged woman in a beautiful knee-length dress — and nude fishnets. To my surprise, she looked downright elegant. The key, I learned, is to keep the rest of your look conservative. You want to look like a lady, not a lady of the night. Stay away from trendy jewelry and put on a pair of pearls or faux diamond stud earrings. While it’s still a little chilly to be wearing fishnets in place of tights in most parts of the country, putting on a pair that matches your skin color will ease the transition to bare legs as the weather starts to warm up. Over-The-Knee Socks: Cute Or Repulsive?

Last week on MTV’s “It’s On With Alexa Chung,” Alexa accessorized a plaid dress by pulling on a pair of over-the-knee socks. On her, the socks create a cute and cozy look, but I’m not sure I’m gonna try to wear them, even though they would be a lot easier to pull off (and less of an investment) than this season’s thigh-high boots. When I was in high school, the “cool” girls would come to school wearing thigh-highs with short skirts, and I’m afraid pairing knee socks with a skirt would bring back memories of my adolescence. Should Cage Leggings Be Sent To Fashion Prison?

Every time I think we’ve seen it all in terms of edgy leggings and hosiery, some designer proves me wrong. Behold caged leggings! Michelle at Kingdom of Style tested out James Lillis’ design and looks pretty rad, but something tells me walking in these bad boys is kind of awkward, especially if your thighs (normally) touch a bit. Michelle also turned me on to a new blog to peruse on those days when I have nutty legwear on the brain — Too Many Tights! Bookmark it. [Kingdom Of Style] Keep reading »

Are Baggy, Footless Tights In Your Fashion Future?

I’m all for most hosiery trends, whether it be two-toned, crazy-patterned, or studded leg wear. And I’ve never been an opponent of “tights as pants,” as long as it’s done tastefully. But I have to admit that I don’t know what to make of Wolford‘s Voile leggings/footless tights. Keep reading »
