Connie Britton, Kate Mara and others jump off the page in classic scenes from “The Birds,” “Carrie” and others. Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Bacon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Goerge Clooney and more all had early roles battling Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, vicious furballs, creepy serial killers and, in Jennifer Aniston’s case, even evil leprechauns.

It’s a scary world out there for us ladies sometimes. That’s why I love a good horror movie for contained fear and excitement. There’s nothing like sitting down in the darkened theater for two hours of sensory overload and raw adrenaline, only to leave when it’s all done in one piece. A couple weeks ago, my brother and his girlfriend convinced me to watch “The Shining” with them. I was hesitant because I hate scary movies (I still have nightmares about the 15 minutes of “Scream” I watched accidentally in 1996), but they insisted it was a classic and I needed to see it in order to be a productive member of society. Unsurprisingly, the movie totally freaked me out. Presented without comment, “The Life Zone,” a pro-life horror film about “pregnant women kidnapped from abortion clinics and forced to give birth,” starring Robert Loggia. New Jerseyites can check it out currently at the Hoboken International Film Festival. The rest of us will have to wait until it’s picked up by Fox News, I suppose.
