Erin Faith Page was chosen to represent students at New England College’s commencement this year. The school also chose Senator Kelly Ayotte as a keynote speaker at the event, offering her an honorary degree. The problem? Erin is an out lesbian who believes that Ayotte’s conservative politics make her a terrible choice for the honor.

HIV-Positive? You Probably Don’t Want To Be In Kansas Anymore

My college best friend and I coined the term “bipolar week.”  It was used to describe a week filled with both overwhelmingly amazing events and truly terrible moments: winning a prestigious award and then getting dumped by your boyfriend, or perhaps acing a midterm and losing a childhood pet. When reflecting on this past week, in terms

Former Republican Senator Says Male Legislators “Shouldn’t Even Vote” On Abortion

Former three-term Senator Alan Simpson of Wyoming is an equal opportunity critic, throwing judgement at both President Obama and his own Republican party.  He’s known to be blunt with his opinions (regardless of hate mail) and this past week was no exception. He spoke frankly to a reporter at a local Chamber of Commerce in his hometow…

Tennessee Reintroduces “Don’t Say Gay” Bill

Tennessee’s state Senate has reintroduced a bill that would ban elementary and middle school teachers from discussing homosexuality because it is not “natural” reproduction. The bill reads that anything other than natural reproduction is “sensitive,” “inappropriate,” and “best explained and discussed in the home.” Clearly if children are not exposed to gayness, they will…

Renounce Your Homosexuality For A Free Chicken Sandwich!

As we all learned last year, Chick-fil-A’s secret seasoning blend includes a heaping spoonful of homophobia and a generous slathering of bigotry. In response, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, a comedy group that parodies conservative “family values” organizations, created this fake coupon offering a free chicken sandwich to anyone who renounced their homosexuality. It’s a hilarious piece of…

Is your boyfriend still being kind of a wiener when it comes to gay marriage? If he’s still making insecure cracks about Adam and Steve, you might do well to show him this sobering video — where gay men threaten to marry straight girls if straight guys don’t start accepting same-sex unions. The Boy Scouts of America announced today that they are keeping their policy banning gay scouts and gay leaders after a two-year policy review. I know this item has nothing to do with women, exactly. But homophobia does have to do with women, so I’m including it.  [New York Daily News]

Girl Talk: How Kirk Cameron Tried To Ruin My View Of Sex

When I tell people that once, when I was in 7th grade Sunday school class, I was shown a video starring Kirk Cameron and his wife Chelsea Noble that illustrated the dangers of sex with laughing carnival workers and evil clowns, they don’t believe me. Well, here it is (presented in three parts, after the…

Kirk Cameron Is Even More Self-Righteous And Bigoted Than We Thought

Color me disgusted. I thought I lost all respect for Kirk Cameron back when the newly born-again sitcom star had a big moral hissy fit about his co-star Julie McCullough’s past as a Playboy centerfold and got her fired from “Growing Pains.” But after the incredibly offensive, self-righteous comments Cameron made to Piers Morgan, I somehow lost even more respect for…

Kris Humphries, Your Homophobia Is Showing

It’s all starting to come together now. Why Kim Kardashian needed to get rid of Kris Humphries after only 72 days of marriage. On the latest episode of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York,” he seemed awfully concerned with Jonathan Cheban’s (Kim’s PR guy) sexual orientation. Like, suspiciously so. Could someone be questioning? Does someone…
