Usually, looking through my Facebook updates feed is cause for extreme boredom. On the rare occasion that it provides something I’m actually interested, I regain faith in mankind and blog about the glorious occurrence. This is one of those times. Amidst a sea of updates about peoples’ puppies and boyfriends and stuff was a pretty nifty project from Jeff Simmermon, Facebook friend and man who brought us all those Types of Bitches. Wallpaper Only One Wall, Maybe Keep Your Rental Deposit

I’m not a huge fan of most accent walls—you know, the decorating technique where you paint one wall with a color and leave the other three some version of white. It always seems to scream, “This is the wall where I got crazy and really went for it!” Why not buck up and paint all four? If you hate it, it’s paint; you repaint it white.

But when I saw Jason Wu’s bedroom wall wallpapered in a gray floral paper, I had to eat my words. I loved it! Here’s why it works for me: The wallpaper acts like a stand-in for a wall of art. If I could pick a wall to put up a gorgeous De Gournay paper (it’s hand painted, heavenly, and hyper-$$$), you bet your ass I would. If I didn’t have to pay for it, that is. Keep reading »

A Bride, A Groom, And A Kitchen Display

A couple who had their first date at a Menards home improvement store in Kearney, NE, got married there on Friday in a kitchen display. Gaylan Whitwer and Francine Brickner-Whitwer remodel homes as a hobby and spend all of their spare time and money at Menards, so they felt it was the perfect place for them to get married. The couple kept the ceremony a secret from family and friends — but a bunch of random people probably walked by as they shopped for pressure-treated pine lumber and the like. [AP] Keep reading »

Losing It To Music

Do you remember what was playing when you lost your virginity? Someone at The Frisky lost hers to Willie Nelson [Oh, heck, it was me. -- Editor], which is an interesting choice, no? Pierre Bouvier of Simple Plan lost his to Warrant’s “Cherry Pie,” and Cobra Starship’s Ryland Blackinton was listening to the Home Improvement theme song. In a Virgin Mobile survey, 25 percent chose “It’s Your Love” by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as the best song to lose your virginity to, which is just too sweet. But, like, how many guys have that in their iTunes? That song beat out “Feels Like the First Time” by Foreigner, “Like a Virgin” by Madonna, and “Give It To Me” by Timbaland. Basically, those choices make us want to vomit, they’re so cliché.

Two other interesting, unrelated pieces of information:
The View co-host Sherri Shepherd has her phone set to play Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” or Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” when her ex calls, and fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi’s phone plays Rihanna’s “Umbrella” whenever his boyfriend calls. [PR Newswire] Keep reading »
