How do you get your boyfriend or hubby to buy you flowers? It’s easy. Just get yourself a gorgeous vase, like this geometric Carnaby vase by designer Jonathan Adler, and lament how it’s sitting there empty! This glossy porcelain vase would be perfect as a centerpiece on your bedroom dresser, or anywhere else that could use a pop of color. And Jonathan Adler’s even got accompanying coffee mugs and trays, if you want to get really matchy-matchy. Adorable!

Nesting: I’m Back, Baby! Check Out How I’ve Decorated My New Bedroom

It took three months, 612 moving boxes (or thereabouts), and the very last smidgen of my sanity, but this weekend I moved out of my parents’ house (where I’d been staying after a bad breakup) and back to New York City in a “single girl” apartment again.

I’m baaaaaaaack, bitches!

However, moving into a new apartment during a rainstorm is not something I would recommend. Just a little advice from me to you. Keep reading »

Taste The Rainbow

Don’t you want to taste the rainbow? This set of three Crate & Barrel stoneware dishes in red, yellow and robin’s egg blue will be just the pop of color you need among all the other “blah” metal pots and pans in your cabinets. And when your cookware is this cute, there’s no need to dirty another dish when you want to show off your culinary talents. Whether you’re mixing up a casserole or baking a loaf of banana bread, everything in the kitchen is more fun in color.

Nesting: Bed Shopping Makes Me Want To Cry

Truth: I love me some shopping. But I’m the kinda girl who has always been on a Forever 21 budget. Thirty to fifty bucks here or there is typical; a few years ago I bought a $250 pair of high heels from J.Crew and I still feel guilty about it. When you decorate a new bedroom, though, there’s really no way around it. Unless you want to sleep on the $99 mattress they sell at IKEA — which I was totally prepared to do until I actually laid on it and was convinced it’s stuffed with straw — you’re going to have to plunk down some cash money. How Moving (And Redecorating!) Changed My Life

It began, as so many great New York love stories do, with an ad on Craigslist. I wasn’t seeking a man, but an apartment, and this one sounded ideal: A charming studio in a former carriage house located in the heart of Chelsea. And then, two words that can stop any city girl’s heart: Courtyard garden.

“It’s like living in Europe,” the ad promised. I clicked on the photos and swooned at the sight of exposed brick and hardwood floors. After e-mailing the realtor, I announced to my friends with great solemnity. “I found the place where I am going to live.”

The last time I’d had that feeling was when I glimpsed my old apartment, a roomy one-bedroom in Astoria, Queens. I saw sweet black-and-white checkered kitchen tile, six large windows, abundant sunlight. “This is it,” I said and it was, for a while. Read more… Keep reading »

Risqué Business

The sexiest part of anyone’s boudoir is the bed, but all too many of us fall asleep each night on ratty and — and let’s face it — unwashed flannel pillows. Silk sheets may be the stuff of your dreams, but you can still remind yourself that beds are not just for watching “Family Guy” reruns! We love this “risqué” sham featuring a sexy bustier, which infuses just the right amount of l’amour into the most sacred space. It comes in oh-so-Parisian pink or black, as well. Pillow fight anyone?

Nesting: I’m Doing This Decorating Thing Backwards

Home Decorating On A Budget

Decorate a cute place even if you're a broke-ass mofo. Read More »

Decorating my soon-to-be new bedroom in my new “single again!” apartment has been some of the most fun I’ve had in months. (Boy, have I needed it.) These days instead of whittling away the working hours clicking around Bluefly, I’m all over Crate and Barrel, Pier 1, and the W Hotel store websites.

Interior design is a new interest of mine, but it’s mostly confined to Apartment Therapy lust. When it comes to actually decorating, I’m about as bamboozled as I am by parallel parking and trigonometry. Keep reading »

Nesting: How Do I Decorate A (Very) Small Bedroom?

Good news, critters! While living with my nearly-70-year-old parents in the ‘burbs has been a “Fox News”-laden blast for the past three months, it’s time for me to leave the nest. Yes, your girl Jessica is packing up her Louboutins and moving back to New York City. Yay! Keep reading »
