Abercrombie & Fitch Ad

In case people aren’t yet convinced that Abercrombie & Fitch is the Douchiest Company Ever, they’ve set out to prove it once again. In 2010, they fired Hani Khan, a Muslim employee who insisted on wearing a hijab at work. The store claimed that the head scarf would hinder sales because it strayed from their desired employee “look.”

In 2011, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit on her behalf. Now, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers has ruled that Abercrombie & Fitch wrongly fired Khan, a former employee of a Hollister store in San Mateo, California. Keep reading »

No, girl, no. Just no. “Girls” creator Lena Dunham tweeted a TwitPic of herself this week, her head wrapped in what looks like a blanket as if it as an Islamic veil, with the caption “I had a real goth/fundamentalist attitude when I woke up from my nap.”

I leave it to the goths to defend their goth-itude from her hipsterism. But that “fundamentalist” comment is just dumb — just because a woman wears a hijab, niqab or even a burqa, does not mean the woman herself is”fundamentalist.” Muslims don’t appreciate all being characterized as fundamentalist — that’s called a stereotype, Lena. Sexy Mannequins A Big, Intolerable Problem In Iran

It’s hard for us to look at a mannequin’s uncovered, plastic head and keep our pants on. They’re just that hot. The synthetic and/or sculpted hair, the fake, vacant eyes, and the total lack of resemblance to a real live woman just gets the blood flowing in our nether regions. Aww, yeah.

OK, so obviously that’s not true. They are mannequins. They are inanimate. We do not have a lady boner for them. But apparently the Iranian government is very concerned about the power of the mannequin to seduce and corrupt. Keep reading »
