These high heels appear to have hamsters (gerbils?) embedded in the platform under the toe. We here at The Frisky pride ourselves on our extensive knowledge of extreme shoes, from crazy stripper shoes to the highest heels ever made. But animals? In shoes? That’s gone too far. Thankfully, or disappointingly, depending on your relationship to animal rights, we do not believe these shoes exist in reality. They’re from If Shoes Could Kill, a blog that showcases some of the absolutely most freakiest shoes around, real and pretend. We’d probably rather wear these banana shoes, personally, than clomp around with the hamsters. [If Shoes Could Kill] Keep reading »
I have a love affair with high heels because I’m slightly vertically challenged. My motto is “the taller the heel, the better.” Mihai Albu, a designer from Romania, shares my sentiment. With his experience in architecture, he designs shoes that mix fashion, height, and sculpture in order to “reposition the waist” and appear to make you taller while wearing his heels. His latest creation boasts a full 12.2-inch heel sandal! This much heel might be a tad bit excessive, not to mention impossible to walk in, but if Alexander McQueen‘s spring 2010 shoes proved anything, it’s that fashion lovers will wear anything once. You’ll pay for the inches though. Each pair retails for about £1,200, or $1,762. Who will be the first celebrity to strut around with an additional 12 inches of height? [Daily Mail]

We make allowances for certain things from our childhood to revisit our wardrobes, but we’re not sure if Play-Doh fits in. These heels from Balenciaga‘s spring collection are inspired by Play-Doh and made out of a crazy mixed material meant to resemble the kids’ toy. What’s in it? Melted strips of different colored leathers (we didn’t even know you could melt leather, but OK), which are then laser-compressed and hardened. Funnily enough, designer Nicolas Ghesquière was quoted describing his shoes as “like Play-Doh,” which got misinterpreted, leading some people to believe they’re actually made out of the smushy dough.
What do you think of this Balenciaga bootie? Play-Do? Or Play-Don’t? [TrendHunter, Style.com] Keep reading »
Think you know how to walk in high heels
? This instructional video featuring model Anastassia Khozissova will give you doubts. Here, Anastassia gets into the technical nitty-gritty business of how to strut in stilettos, and it’s far more complex and complicated than you’d ever imagine. Not only are there four rules to remember (hips, head, toes, arms), but also head-feet and shoulder-feet coordination exercises that aren’t all that simple to do off the bat. Near the end of the lesson Anastassia reminds you, “You can use this in real life.” In case you had forgotten that models are superhuman beings who live in a perfect world. [Modelinia
