Yesterday on Howard Stern, Nick Cannon admitted that he and Mariah “absolutely” make love to her music and that he masturbates to it when she’s not there. But wait! There’s more TMI. So often we hear about public transit disasters, so it’s nice to actually hear a positive story about the New York subway system. Conductor John Ross was pulling the Franklin Shuttle train out of the Brooklyn Botanical station when he spotted a small, helpless kitten on the tracks. The cat was apparently imitating Drunk Me and had gotten its head stuck in a bag of Sun Chips, and was struggling to break free. “I figured it may be a cruel trick by some kids — or the cat might be trying to get some food,” said Ross, who stopped the whole friggin’ train and removed the offending bag from the cat’s head.The cat then ran off happily, hopefully, to pilfer some French fries from a fast food dumpster or something.
Ross was also recently commended for his assistance in a 2009 stabbing incident. He pulled an attacker off of a stabbed man, and tackled the suspect when he tried to flee. So ,this guy is basically a real life superhero. Good work, John Ross! [Gothamist]
Free Willy, who? Mila the beluga whale is officially the most amazing creature under the sea. Well, at least, under the pool. During a free-diving competition at the Polar Land pool in China, Mila noticed a diver in distress. On the way up from holding her breath at the bottom of a 20-foot-deep pool, panic struck diver Yang Yun because the arctic cold temperature of the water paralyzed her legs. She started sinking deeper into the freezing pool, and without any breathing equipment, Yang thought she was going to die. Until (cue heroic music), Mila the beluga whale swam over, put Yang’s leg in her mouth, and pushed her to the surface. Diving to the bottom of a 20-foot-deep arctic pool sounds like a recklessly stupid competition to me, but Mila using her beluga nose to help Yang to safety is nothing short of truly heartwarming. Mariah Carey always has a lot going on in her fabulous diva life. She’s working on the musical based on her movie “Glitter” coming out. She’s constantly fighting off pregnancy rumors, and now Mimi just got finished working on a new album. I don’t know how she does it all and still keeps that banging bod! Mariah is releasing a new ballads CD, a collection of songs she’s already released — yes, another “Greatest Hits”-esque offering. I’m kind of rolling my eyes too. The CD includes her classic, “Hero,” which Mimi re-recorded and shot a whole new video for. While I usually think everything Mariah does is amazing, this particular video is dreadfully boring. It’s nothing but shots of the city skyline, her dog Jack, and her recording in the studio. Mimi, darling, I know you have enough money to create a bigger and better video. You don’t do anything half-assed, so why start now? Secondly, if you watch the original “Hero” video, shot in 1993 (after the jump) and this “Hero,” 15 years later (see above), Mariah has had so much work done.
