Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker in “The Dark Knight” is one of the most chillingly original performances on screen — but perhaps the late actor was influenced by other characters in pop culture? Like, say, gravely voiced singer-songwriter Tom Waits? Watch this 1979 interview with Waits and try and tell me the vocal inflections and mannerisms aren’t uncannily similar. [NME]
The first thing you’ll notice about 19-year-0ld Lucas Pittaway is his striking resemblance to fellow Aussie Heath Ledger. But aside from his Ledger-esque curly locks and good looks, Pittaway’s got intense acting skills. They can be seen in the new indie film “The Snowtown Murders” (out in the U.S. on March 2), based on the true story of one of Australia’s most notorious serial killers, John Bunting. Bunting, along with several accomplices, murdered 11 people in the ’90s and buried many of them in storage containers. Pittaway plays Jamie Vlassakis, one of Bunting’s unwilling accomplices and the heart of the film. “The Snowtown Murders” isn’t easy to watch — and some of it is graphically horrific — but it’s a haunting portrayal of a killer going unnoticed amid the malaise of suburban life. And we think Lucas Pittaway — who by the way, cries very beautifully in this movie — is destined for great things. After the jump, five things you should know about Pittaway.

“I said it would make me too sad to answer but it’s also … one of my favorite things to imagine. It’s actually one of my favorite places to visit.”
– Michelle Williams‘ response to the question, “Do you think there was a part of you that imagined the two of you [Michelle and Heath Ledger] would somehow end up together?” in an interview with GQ. The profile of the “My Week With Marilyn” actress is extremely raw and beautifully written, filled with plenty of tears. Of her whirlwind romance with late actor on the set of “Brokeback Mountain,” Williams says, “It’s a bit like: We had a lot of things to do, because we didn’t have a lot of time, or something.” Of those things to do? Having daughter Matilda, now six, who Williams thanked sweetly and profusely in her Golden Globes’ acceptance speech, saying Matilda’s “bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life.” Keep reading »

“I’ve really grown into it — I feel like myself with short hair. … Of course, the only people who like it are gay men and my girlfriends. Straight men across the board are not into this hair! … [But] I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it.”
– Michelle Williams tells British Elle that while her daughter (and men) would prefer her with long hair, she has no plans to grow out her pixie crop, which she wears in tribute to her ex, the late Heath Ledger. I think this is beautiful and now I’m kind of teary. Sigh. [Telegraph UK] Keep reading »
“I was just an actor who happened to be lucky enough to be in the right place, and it was the place where I met Matilda’s father, and that is a lot. It was a lot. And it will be a lot for Matilda too, when she gets around to watching it. I will watch it with her, when she’s ready. It is hard to imagine what that would feel like, but one day, yes, we will watch it together.”
– Michelle Williams, who is fantastic in the upcoming “Blue Valentine,” explains the significance of “Brokeback Mountain” and how she will watch the movie with her young daughter Matilda when the time is right.
