Science: Marijuana Use Might Be Causing Man Boobs

A scene from "Pineapple Express"

Oh man, I better call up all my high school boyfriends and tell them the news before it’s too late. Actually, on second thought, I’ll let them suss this one out for themselves. According to experts (yeah, you heard me, experts!!), regular marijuana use could be to blame for a hormonal imbalance leading to excessive breast tissue in men. Keep reading »

Sanjay Gupta: “I Was Wrong About Weed”

For years, Sanjay Gupta has been among the voices calling medical marijuana illegitimate, even writing a 2009 Time article entitled “Why I Would Vote No on Pot.” “Well, I am here to apologize,” the celebrity doctor writes today at CNN. Gupta has spent a lot of time researching pot for his new documentary “Weed,” and has arrived at a conclusion: “We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the United States, and I apologize for my own role in that.” Read more at Newser…

Amazing News: Doctors Say They Have Cured Baby With HIV

Yesterday, doctors announced that they had, for the first time, cured a baby who was born with HIV, an incredible achievement that could lead to more aggressive treatments used on babies born with HIV and a reduction of the number of children living with the virus that causes AIDS. Dr. Deborah Persaud, associate professor at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and lead author of the report on the baby, said, “It’s proof of principle that we can cure HIV infection if we can replicate this case.’’ Once the doctors’ report has been confirmed, the baby would be only the second documented case of an HIV patient being cured. (The first was a middle-aged man with leukemia named Timothy Brown, who received a bone-marrow transplant from a donor genetically resistant to H.I.V. infection.) Keep reading »

Getting Tanning Mom
We're starting to understand Tanning Mom. Read More »

It’s universally acknowledged, if not necessarily heeded, that both tanning by sunlight and by booth can cause skin cancer, and now we’re being warned that something so seemingly innocuous as a spray tan could very well be our next death wish. Is there any safe way to get a tan anymore? Not so, if a new study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania is any indicator. When DHA, the chemical ingredient that serves to darken skin, was approved by the FDA in the seventies, it was only intended to be used as an ingredient in topical tanning creams. The problem arises when, as the chemical is dispersed into the air, it also enters the lungs by way of breathing. Keep reading »
