Karl Lagerfeld Creates Hair Accessories Out Of Colanders

Even though Blair Waldorf is weaning herself off headbands now that “Gossip Girl” has gone to college, we’re still digging cute crap we can wear on our heads, and apparently Karl Lagerfeld is, too.

Lagerfeld photographed a story for the October issue of Italian Elle, that transformed a male model into a Ken-like doll (he has a bulge but no reproductive organs) and added interesting accessories atop model Ikeliene Strange’s head. You thought Lady Gaga‘s hair bow was wild? That was nothing compared to a colander, a heel, and a telephone. [Design Scene]

Quick Pic: Put On Your Bunny Ears

Erin Fetherston Spring 2010

Headgear resembling rabbit ears figured into Erin Fetherston’s spring 2010 fashion show, continuing the animal ear trend we’ve been seeing the last few months. Would you be seen in ears on a day other than Halloween? [Erin Fetherston, New York Fashion Week, 9/13/09]

Are Animal Ears The New Feathers?

animal ear headbands

When Madonna arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala wearing a pair of wonky bunny ears and thigh-high stripper boots, we had to laugh. But when the look showed up in her latest Louis Vuitton ad campaign, they didn’t look so horrible. In fact, they looked kind of classy, yet playful.

Headbands For Dudes?

Headbands For Men

Why do men keep stealing our garments and accessories? The male headband is another unnecessary male fashion-y thing we hope won’t become a trend. If a guy’s hair is becoming a nuisance because it’s too long, then he should cut it or try a new hair product. I’m guessing the stylist who added the band to this man’s hair was trying to be fashion forward, but this look is a dud. Would you associate with (forget date) a guy that wears a headband? Grammy Awards Bid Adieu To Polka, But We Still Like The Clothes

polka music no longer grammy awards category

After more than 20 years of conferring awards on top polka albums, the Grammy Awards is ditching its polka category. The genre has simply become less competitive over the years since the pool of artists in the category is relatively tiny. But let’s not forget about polka entirely, okay? While polka music is a little hokey, the costumes associated with it are inspiring.

Crave: Pip-Squeak Chapeau Etc. Head Band

chic earwarmers

We’re entering the really cold part of the winter season, when bundling up means more than throwing on a coat. No, when you venture out into the arctic conditions, you have put on a big sweater, maybe some long underwear, a warm coat, a thick scarf, lined mittens, and a hat. If hats aren’t your thing, try this elegant alpaca/merino wool/bamboo knit headband. We wouldn’t want those cute ears of yours to get frostbitten, now would we? [$80, Pip-Squeak Chapeau Etc.]

Mischa Barton’s Headband Collection Debuts

Mischa Barton for Stacey Lapidus headbands

Mischa Barton’s long-awaited (ha) headband collaboration with hairwear designer Stacey Lapidus just came out, and it does not disappoint if you are into expensive, bejeweled headgear. The headbands are priced between $90 and $200, and Barton even commented on the various designs with her styling suggestions. For the Vinatge [sic] Jeweled Headband With Silk Ties, she says, “I’ve taken my favorite vintage tiara and put a spin on it. Let it become your own!” Oh, Marisa, we, like, totally will. Fashion Slideshow: Headbands Galore!

jeweled flower headband

Headbands are an accessory often overlooked by grown woman. For sure, certain styles make their wearer look a little innocent, which isn’t always a bad thing. Remember when Winona Ryder sported a headband during her shoplifting trial in 2002? But these headbands are a little more fabulous than the ones you wore in elementary school. They have things like feathers (Have you noticed I have a thing for feather headbands?), jewels, and flowers adorning them, so they’re pretty fancy. Also, they come in handy when your hair is just not cooperating.

Crave: The Toned-Down Version Of Carrie Bradshaw

peacock feather headband

Sarah Jessica Parker’s headband at the London premiere of SATCmight be a bit much, but, in my opinion, a hint of feather in the hair is quite nice. [Urban Outfitters]
