I love buying handbags, so I often find myself with a huge pile of purses and a lack of uses for them. My friends who aren’t so into handbags often try to make one bag work for everything, which means they’re cramming their laptop and gym socks into their shoulder bag. I’m not sure where to begin, because this bag is pretty terrible on all counts. The first glaring issue is that it’s ugly. So yeah — Australian handbag designer Kirrily Johnston collaborated with Special K (yes, the cereal) to create this purse following the brand’s “Handbag Exposé,” which found that 79% of women don’t carry a snack with them during the day. That’s where the bag comes in: the campaign claims that the special “Special K red” suede will serve as “a visual cue to help the 96% of women who think about snacking each day.” I don’t know what kind of statistic that is, but there it is. The interior also features a “Special K Snack Pouch” (I’m not making this up), a specially designed snack bar pocket. This bag is $750. You want? [Racked]

It’s February already? Fashion weeks are fast approaching, that’s for sure, and New York is the first up as always, with shows beginning on Thursday. Regretfully, one brand us Manhattanites don’t usually hear much from is Miu Miu, which shows in Paris. This year, though, things are different. How different, you ask? Well, we still won’t be seeing the collection strutted down the runway, but the brand is launching a (limited edition!) line of 46 unique handmade bags of 17 different material combinations using 12 different processing techniques, all to be unveiled in the big four fashion capitals (London, Milan, Paris, and NYC) during each of their fashion weeks. I know for a fact that a grand total of zero of these bags will eventually be mine, but my god, aren’t they glorious? There’s A 9/11 Handbag

A purse to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks doesn’t sound like it should be right. But hear me out on this. Handbag designers Jen and Chris Mascali lost their father, Staten Island firefighter Joe Mascali, on 9/11 and they are donating the wholesale portion of proceeds from these handbags to the 9/11 Memorial Fund. It’s a slick red leather tote with fringe detailing, which includes a flame printed with the words “Each life is a miracle that changes the world and leaves it a better place than it was before.” It’s chic, tasteful and doesn’t, in my opinion, egregiously capitalize on a horrific event. Still, the idea of selling 9/11-themed products unnerves me and I worry about what other products are coming down the pike. Nicole Richie Launches House Of Harlow 1960 Handbags

Proving that she’ll take her very successful House of Harlow 1960 brand as far as demand will allow, Nicole Richie has added a collection of handbags to her fashion and accessories brand. The handbag line, which includes everything from crocodile clutches to large leather bags, has the bohemian vibe Nicole is known for. The concept behind the collection was to contrast luxury with casual, using young calf hair and relaxed vintage leathers. But skins aren’t the only focus–great attention was also paid to the hardware. Gold and black studs adorn the larger bags, and jaguar heads close clutches. The line is slated to arrive in stores mid-July, and seems to have something for every woman, a goal Nicole said she had in mind while designing. Prices will range from $150 to $625. You make a bag, you put all the components in it that you think could work, you send it out to a couple of celebrities, you get the paparazzi to shoot just when they walk out of their house. You sell that to the cheap tabloids, and you say in a magazine that there’s a waiting list. And you run an ad campaign at the same time. I don’t believe that’s how you make something that’s lasting — that becomes iconic as a design.”

One of fashion’s most despised accessories: the fanny pack. The purse-alternative accessory seems to come and go, sometimes ironically, sometimes in seriousness. It’s been a while since we spotted one, but today we came across a Zambos & Siega python print version as well as a Rebecca Minkoff studded model. Handbag Confessions: What Are You Hiding In There?

I didn’t realize that I was exhibiting strange purse behavior until a friend asked me for a piece of gum and when I reached into my my black, leather bucket bag, my hand emerged full of coat buttons. She looked at me like she smelled doo-doo. Yeah. For some reason, I always have all the buttons that have fallen off my coats looming around in there. I don’t sew them back on (I don’t even know how to), I don’t throw them away. They just remain forever and always in my purse. I even transfer them when I change purses. I have no idea why. Also, I make crazy person notes to myself on receipts and keep them in my wallet. They are barely legible so I don’t even know why I bother. I can’t be the only one with weird crap in my purse.
