Hair Model Citizen: The Messiest Bob Ever

Whilst perusing Paper magazine’s “Beautiful People” issue (which by-the-by should be called “Beautiful People You Have Never Heard Of”), one particular genetically gifted soul caught our eye: Sure, Belgian model Hanne Gaby Odiele is a looker, but it’s her haircut we’re seriously obsessed with. The zig-zagged part, the trippy ends, that perfect shade of honey and the overall dishevelment gets an A-plus in our book. Getting the look, however, is not a cinch, as I have tried for years to get this hair color shade and numerous colorists have insisted it’s God-given and damn near impossible to re-create and that I should move on with my life. Whatever. But you could ask a stylist to cut a jagged bob, right? Then rub a dollop of Redken Rough Paste between your palms and work it into the ends. Tousle and go. [Paper Mag] Keep reading »

Hair Model Citizen: Angelina Has New Bangs!

Angie and Johnny are already filming “The Tourist” in Venice, and it looks like the film’s hairdresser has decided to snip some bangs (and added fresh highlights?) on Miss Jolie’s ‘do. Do we like? Those big, curled bangs are awfully hard to pull off, even if you’re one of the most beautiful women in the world. Then again, they’re more flattering than, say, a blunt little Dutch boy style. To get the look, ask a stylist to cut bangs that frame your face, and use a large barreled curling iron and a bit of hairspray to piece them into place. Just like ya did in junior high. Hair Model Citizen: Punk Rock Strawberry Blonde

Now, this is not a hair color that we would normally advocate. It’s a little red, a little blond, and the cut itself is all over the place. That said, Micky Green is an Australian pop star making an appearance at the Chanel show, so when it comes to being the right hair on the right person in the right place, Micky’s got it down. To get the look, bleach hair out, layer strawberry blonde dye on top, and rinse out in a totally random, haphazard way. [Paris, 3/9/10] Keep reading »

Hair Model Citizen: The Semi-Blunt Bob

Ballroom dancer extraordinaire and “Dancing With the Stars” alum Karina Smirnoff just stepped out of Mr. Chow with a freshly chopped bob, and judging from her Cheshire grin, looks like she’s totally feeling it. We are too, actually. Her long hair was pretty, but this is kind of unexpected and looks so fresh, right? (Chic even, a word we might never have associated with Karina Smirnoff.) To get the look, ask for slightly layered bangs and a semi-blunt cut with softer edges. [Los Angeles, 3/2/10] Keep reading »

Hair Model Citizen: Dannii Minogue Is So Glamourous

How freakin’ cute does Kylie’s sister’s hair look on the cover of U.K. Glamour? It’s a little bit Marilyn with a whole lot of Jackie mixed in, all updated for 2010. How to get the look? It’s basically a really short, asymmetrical bob that’s been curled to flip at the ends and teased for volume. We think it’s a fresh way to stand out from all the extension-addled starlets out there. Hair Model Citizen: Beyonce’s Hair Bling

After posting yesterday’s sleek Grammy hair photos, I noticed something when I zoomed in on Beyonce‘s hair—it had sparkly strands running through it! Now, after much tireless hair research, I’ve finally ascertained that 1) I’m not seeing things that don’t exist, and 2) Her hairstylist did, in fact, pump up her hair with loads of bling. According to Kimberly Kimble, the stylist who created the hair look, there were strands of Bella Via Hair Glitz woven into her ‘do. (Apparently, they were coordinating with her Minx mani.) Hair Model Citizen: Penelope Can Do No Wrong

It’s always a bit of a shame when a ravishing brunette highlights her hair. While we get that there’s a lot of pressure to lighten up in Hollywood and all, there’s nothing more striking than a true raven-haired beauty who is fully pulling it off. But real talk: Penelope Cruz is seriously rocking this rather subtle approach, beginning with the effortless-looking casual way her hair is styled. To get the look, the key word is “caramel,” and we probably wouldn’t attempt this at home, as it’s clearly the handiwork of a master colorist excelling at the hard-to-DIY balayage technique, which produces amazingly natural results. Getting just the right amount of tousled is fairly easy though: Just blow-dry, then shake your hair out and rake a product like Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Styling Cream through with your fingers. Hair Model Citizen: Someone Needs A Root Touch-Up

Today at Dior‘s spring 2010 couture collection, John Galliano channeled an exaggerated version of the Gibson Girls (not to be confused with those ladies of the Golden variety). By the look of model Kasia Struss, there was a touch of “Bride Of Frankenstein” thrown in the mix. We can only speculate what the rest of this ‘do looks like, but it definitely goes along with the gray hair trend that’s so hot right now. Getting the white hot mess look–even just streaks–is no easy task though. First, hair needs to be as blond as possible. Then you need to tone the hell out of it with a product like Manic Panic Virgin Snow White Toner Mixer, $13. Maintenance is a beyotch, and don’t come cryin’ to me if your strands feel like dry straw. Good luck with that. But yeah, it can look rad. P.S. If you have succeeded at this hair surgery, please, for the love of God, send us a pic at style@thefrisky.com. [The Guardian] Keep reading »

Hair Model Citizen: Jennifer Connelly’s Evening Pony

Last night, actress Jennifer Connelly sported a chic and simple ponytail that wins the we-all-can-do-it Hair Model Citizen award. Love how she worked with her hair’s natural texture and didn’t fall into the trap of some elaborate updo for a more low-key event and night out. Oh, and I clearly adore that I can so easily be a hair copycat! Here’s how to get her look… Keep reading »

Hair Model Citizen: Jessica Simpson Just Stepped Out Of The Salon

Well, look whose hair is all shiny and new! Jessica Simpson, caught by the paparazzi outside of her BFF and main hair guy Ken Paves’ salon yesterday looking hot, blond and sneaking a satisfied little smirk. All we ever read about Jessica are 84989203123-word paragraphs about how she’s too fat/curvy/skinny/clingy, and we can’t take the negativity anymore. She’s our Hair Model Citizen of the day—because is there a better hair moment than that first, confident stride out of the hair salon? If you’re wanting that just-from-the-salon mood boost, call your stylist. But if you’re just interested in the actual Cinderella hair style she’s rocking, here’s what you do: blow-dry, create a deep side part, sweep to the side, and coat ends with a dab of styling cream. Now, get out your trusty medium-barrel curling iron to create individual curls, then use your fingers to gently separate them so they look piece-y. [Beverly Hills, 1/5/10] Keep reading »
