This Film Tells The Other Side Of The “Gravity” Story

"Hey Mayday! I'm Aningaaq."

“Gravity” co-screenwriter Jonás Cuarón, son of the film’s director Alfonso, has made a short film of his own. “Aningaaq” gives us a peek at who was on the other side of Ryan Stone’s (Sandra Bullock’s) distress call. Aningaaq, a fisherman in Greenland, picks up; he and Ryan can barely understand one another, but the connection they share is still comforting and I can’t help but love it. [NYMag.com]

I haven’t seen “Gravity” yet, but I’m eager to, as I love movies about space and the reviews have, for the most part, been really, really good. But one person wasn’t necessarily so impressed with the accuracy of Alfonso Cuaron’s cinematic vision — renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. Tyson tweeted up a storm after seeing the film last night, hilariously pointing out some of the movie’s flaws from a, you know, scientific perspective. See some of my favorites (beware of potential spoilers!) after the jump! Keep reading »

This adorable Muppet take on “Downton Abbey” explains gravity to children and stupid adults. Muppet Dowager Countess and Muppet Carson eventually decide to change the name of “Upside Downton Abbey” to “Rightside Upton Abbey.”  This might be the most spot on Maggie Smith impression we’ve ever seen. George Clooney And Sandra Bullock Are Headed To Space

Beam him up, Sandra. George, we have a problem. I am very excited to report that Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, two of our faves, will be teaming up for a new flick that takes place in outer space. The movie “Gravity” will be directed by the awesome Alfonso Cuaron (of “Children of Men” and “Y Tu Mamá También” fame), who also wrote the script, and tells the story of two astronauts who are the sole survivors of a space station explosion. Originally, Robert Downey Jr. was set to play the male lead, and Cuaron wanted Angelina Jolie or Natalie Portman for the female lead, but we’re way more happy with the Sandra/George pairing. Let’s hope they’ll be the new Brangelina and fall in love on set. (Sorry, Elisabetta Canalis.) Or at least show us in the movie how astronauts have sex in space. We’ve always wondered about that.
