Of the many icy, headband-wielding women who have traipsed across our screens in television history, Blair Waldorf is by far one of the most legendary. While “Gossip Girl” has long finished filming, Blair’s freakishly coordinated clothing and conniving power plays still linger in my heart. She may be a bitchy control freak, even a bully, but she never pretends to be anyone but herself, and that’s what makes her my favorite Upper East Sider. Every teenage “Gossip Girl” viewer could relate to the fact that no matter how hard Blair tries to create a veneer of perfection, she still struggles with feelings of inadequacy against her sunny, effortless BFF Serena. The self-awareness that separates Blair and Serena is ultimately what makes Queen B so superior. Serena continuously sees herself as some kind of compassionate goddess, oblivious to how selfish her every move is, while Blair is proudly self-serving and a never-ending fountain of grim-but-true wisdom. So, apropos of nothing (okay, maybe it’s to balance out all the attention Serena’s real-life counterpart Blake Lively has been getting lately), here are some of Blair’s most striking zingers after the jump.

Leighton Meester (or as she’s forever known in my TV-loving heart, Blair Waldorf) is set to release a nine-track album on October 28. She debuted her new song “Heartstrings” yesterday and I’m totally intrigued. Instead of the bubbly, formulaic ditties that lots of actresses-turned-singers fall victim to, Meester’s song has a thoughtful, melancholy vibe to it that I can totally get behind. She’s ventured into music before with Cobra Starships’ “Good Girls Go Bad,” the movie “Country Strong,” and a kick-ass Fleetwood Mac cover, but this is her first album. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the tracks! [Cosmopolitan]
I understand that if you’re Misery Raccoon Taylor Momsen, you’re life is not necessarily about making sensible choices. This is a rugrat that left a lucrative and high profile career as a “Gossip Girl” to fulfill her rockstar fantasies as a singer in a band. Mental note, Taylor: Most of us just play Rock Band, you know? That said, she’s proven that her music thing is more than just a passing fling; Momsen is still rocking out with her lady cock out. Here she is filming a new video for fellow musician Tomomi Itano (she’s also of the Japanese mega-group AKB48), in deeply inappropriate shoes and a perilously short dress that could double as a wee rainproof tent. Does anybody still watch “Gossip Girl”? I feel like every single person who’s on that show hates it so much and they’ve all pretty much acknowledged that the series needed to end already. So what do we spy here? Is that little Jenny Humphrey — aka Taylor Momsen — all dolled up for the finale? It seems the misery raccoon has returned to her home nest, straight off some horrid Pretty Reckless tour or other, to film one last time with Blair, Serena and LonelyBoy. And P.S., those Louboutins are crazy. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
So this is kind of a bummer: Taylor Momsen, ex-”Gossip Girl” ingenue and lead singer of the Pretty Reckless, strips down naked in this spoken word video … and the lyrics are pretty heavy. She’s definitely getting nude to signify the rawness of the words, not to be “sexy”; the words, which come from her song “Under the Water,” are quite disturbing. With lyrics like “If I cried unto my mother / she wasn’t there for me / Broken lines across my mirror show my face all red and bruised / And though I screamed and I screamed no one came running / I wasn’t saved from you,” it’s hard to tell if it’s just more of her bad girl posturing (see: egregious black eyeliner abuse, performing onstage with Marilyn Manson), or a genuinely concerning video. I wonder what the rest of the cast of “Gossip Girl” would think. (Video obviously NSFW.) [Huffington Post]
Several of the stars of “Gossip Girl” have openly admitted that they’re kind of phoning it in at this point (see also Penn Badgely on Dan Humphrey: “It’s a gentle release with him.”), which is probably why Ed Westwick’s taking up other interests — like modeling. Westwick’s been a spokesperson for K-Swiss and Filipino line Penshoppe, and he’s now the face of designer Philipp Plein, which is why you can catch him in Plein’s latest runway show and in the designer’s latest series of ads. Check out Westwick’s ad for Plein after the jump!
