Dame Helen Mirren, what a lady. In addition to being sexy, stylish proof that age ain’t nothin’ but a number, she’s also a kind-hearted woman, willing to don a wig and some makeup to make a little boy happy. Ten-year-old Oliver Burton is fighting his third bout with cancer, and his chances look grim. At the top of his “bucket list” was to meet the Queen of England. But unfortunately, the real queen couldn’t make it. And that’s where Helen Mirren stepped in.
Mirren, who’s currently appearing in London’s West End production of “The Audience” as the queen, also played Her Royal Highness in the movie, “The Queen.” She had Burton and his family attend a performance of the play and then invited them to join her backstage, where she treated them to tea and cookies — and never broke character. Hayden Carlo was having a bad day. The struggling father of two was pulled over by a Plano, Texas, police officer because he had an expired registration. Carlo told the officer that he couldn’t afford to update his registration, and needed the money to feed his family. The officer was moved by Carlo’s story and struggles, and explained that because he was being videotaped, he was required to write Carlo a ticket. But as the officer handed over the ticket, he managed to sneak something a little extra into the folded up paper — a $100 bill. Keep reading »
Just a day ago, Reddit user ProZacDose posted a throwaway rant on the user-generated content site. A working father of four, he felt frustrated because his meager paycheck just wasn’t paying the bills. His family’s water and power had been shut off, and he was unable to buy his kids any Christmas presents, or even a tree. “I just wanted to vent, and perhaps cry a little, for the pain I feel for my kids,” he wrote. “I hate myself that I could of not done better, or I could have a better job with more income. I am supposed to be a father and a provider and I can’t even do that. I am dreading Christmas morning, and wish I can just escape all of this.”
