Golden Globes 2014: Let’s Imagine What The Nominees Might Wear

Tonight are the Golden Globe Awards, and to get pumped for the red carpet arrivals, I’ve looked into my crystal ball — and a bunch of designers’ Resort 2014 collections — and tried to predict what we might see some of the nominees wearing tonight. Take a look…

Tina & Amy Have Still Got It

Oh, yes, it’s that time of year (again). Where did the time go? It feels like just last week we were advocating for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to host everything. So far we can only get them to agree to host the 2014 Golden Globes again. The first promo debuted last night during “The Sound Of Music,” although I missed it because Carrie Underwood’s singing was annoying me so I turned it off halfway through. Anywho, set your Tivos for Sunday, January 12!

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey

Once upon a time at the Golden Globes, hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey made a little joke at Taylor Swift’s expense. It wasn’t even an especially mean joke, really, but it still poked fun at Swift’s reputation for getting around. “You know what, Taylor Swift? You stay away from Michael J. Fox’s son,” they said, as the camera panned to Swift’s that’s-not-funny face. Fox himself even weighed in on it. (He later apologized.) There were rumors that Taylor Swift was upset about all the negative attention — who wouldn’t be? — and it turns out she took comfort in an unlikely place: the wisdom of Katie Couric.

In her new Vanity Fair profile, Swift was asked about how she deals with “mean girls,” which everyone is assuming is a reference to Fey and Poehler (but not Katy Perry, who has behaved like a snot towards Swift as well, if blind item gossip is to be believed). “Katie Couric is one of my favorite people,” Swift told the magazine. “Because she said to me she a heard a quote that she loved that said ‘There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’ (Which is actually a quote from former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.)

Cue 6,000 headlines screaming that Taylor Swift has told Tina Fey and Amy Poehler that they’re going to hell.

“No. No … Just back off. I don’t keep up with it all, but Taylor Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right? What a way to build a career.”

–Michael J. Fox ruminates on the career arc of Taylor Swift and disses TT as a potential love match for his son Sam. Sam, you’ll remember was the center of a joke during the Golden Globes, when Amy Poehler warned T. Swift to “stay away from him,” to which Swift responded with some total bitch face. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to cross Alex P. Keaton. [NYMag.com]

Jennifer Lawrence Explains Her “I Beat Meryl” Golden Globes Acceptance Speech

"Idiots, it's a quote from a movie!"

Poor Jennifer Lawrence. She wins a Golden Globe for her performance in “Silver Linings Playbook” and yet all anyone can talk about is how she “dissed” Meryl Streep in her acceptance speech. When Lawrence popped on stage to receive her reward, the first thing she said was, “It says I beat Meryl!” leading Lindsay Lohan — yes, that Lindsay Lohan — to tweet “no1 should ever mess with a legend, such as Meryl Streep.” The thing is, Lindz and everyone else who thought Jennifer was being a snot, “It says I beat Meryl” is a famous line from the hilaaaaaaarious movie “The First Wives Club.” Watch as Jennifer explains herself on last night’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” and then check out the original after the jump… Keep reading »

The 5 Hottest Beauty Trends From The Golden Globes — And How To Get Them!

Was anyone else surprised by some of the hair and makeup at the Golden Globes? For example: trend forecasters (this is a real job) have been calling for plenty of dark lips, particularly bordeaux and burgundy shades, this winter, but there were a sparse few to be found this past Sunday. Instead, our favorite celebs (and, yes, long-standing beauty icons) opted for fresher-faced looks, eluding any of the seasonal “trends” that were predicted. It was refreshing to see that the stars stayed true to their own personal sensibilities than just, “This is what’s hot for right now!” We did notice a few patterns popping up on the red carpet… Let’s take a look at the biggest 5 trends from the evening, and how to score them for ourselves.

Golden Globes Style Stealer: Major Statement Earrings

I always get so inspired by red carpet fashion, until I realize that my day to day life affords me very few opportunities to wear sequin fishtail gowns, and then I get sort of depressed. But luckily for us non-famous folks, there were a few trends from last night’s Golden Globes ceremony that can easily translate to the real world: for example, sparkly statement earrings. Stars like Taylor Swift, Salma Hayek, Naomi Watts, Debra Messing, and Alyssa Milano wore huge, glam earrings last night, but this look works just as well with a little black dress for a dinner date as it does for the red carpet. Want to steal this celeb style? I found 10 pairs of gorgeous, sparkly statement earrings starting at just $24. Click through to check ‘em out…
