Quickies: “Golden Girl” Rue McClanahan Is So Over “SATC” & A Cult Leader Gets Naked For Authorities

  • Rue McClanahan from the “Golden Girls” says the “Sex and the City” women aren’t on her level. [TMZ]—I love how she looks the paparazzo up and down as he asks her if she’s still a mack.
  • Amy Poehler will return to her comedic anchor seat alongside Seth Meyers for “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursdays” tonight before the premieres of “Parks and Recreation” and “30 Rock.” [The Frisky]—I just love her and can watch “Baby Mama” over and over.

Manly Sites Say No To Megan Fox And Yes To ... Betty White?

Betty White

Today is Megan Fox media blackout day, so we aren’t going to talk about her at all. Okay, stopping now. But what we do wanna talk about is how the dude websites that made this anti-Megan (err, have to stop talking about her) pact are replacing her with “Golden Girl” Betty White. We are super stoked about this, because Betty is pretty amazing. After the jump, a few reasons why Betty White is the coolest old lady around. Besides my grandma, of course. [Asylum]

Get This Look: Golden Bad Girl Bea Arthur

    TV.com

Bea Arthur was a television comedy legend who earned her stripes—literally. Check out the brassy broad on “Golden Girls.” On camera, her characters could be total boner killers. Off camera, Bea was always bustin’ out a fashion statement that spoke even louder than her jokes. Did you know she was a leather mama? In honor of our beloved Bea, here are some Golden Girl styles that don’t need to retire. Especially during a recession, since you can steal her looks for less than early bird dinner specials.

Five Dating Tips From Dorothy Zbornak

Dating Tips From Golden Girls Dorothy And Bea Arthur

I used to dog sit for two of the cutest pups in the whole world.Their owners gave me strict instructions to always leave the TV on, set to Lifetime, whenever I left them alone. Without fail, when I’d come back, I’d find the dogs lying on the rug together, holding paws and watching the “Golden Girls.” Aww! Those dogs clearly learned a thing or two about how to love each other, and I bet Bea Arthur, as Dorothy Zbornak, taught them a lesson or two. She was always going out with some Tom, Dick (Van Dyke), or Dr. Harry—her neighbor/star of “Empty Nest.” Here are five things we learned from Dorothy’s dating debacles.

    Bea Arthur, Television’s Ballsiest Broad

    The Golden Girls Reunion

Bea Arthur passed away over the weekend at the age of 86. Sadness. Everything I needed to know about scathing wit I learned from Dorothy Zbornak, who was my constant companion on TV throughout kidhood. “The Golden Girls” were funny and fierce, not letting age get in the way of a good time. The ladies sipped frozen drinks and laughed at all the curveballs life threw at them a decade before Carrie & Co. sexed up the city. After the jump, a look back at our favorite Bea Arthur moments.

    Our 10 Favorite Friendship Songs

True friends understand you best and offer a solution or just a strong shoulder when life is at its worst. And they’re usually the first to celebrate with you when life is wonderful. But unfortunately, most songs are about trials of the heart not friendship. So we put together a list of our favorite friendship songs. After reading through the lyrics, call up your best homegirl and let us know in the comments which songs remind you of her.

    The Daily Hotness: Estelle Getty

    Estelle Getty

Estelle Getty, best known for playing Sophia on The Golden Girls passed away this morning at 84. Since Estelle was practically the patron saint of sassiness, we are extremely sad.

Even though she played perhaps the most memorable character on the show, Estelle had to audition three times before getting the part for which she won two Emmys. At 60, they thought she didn’t look old enough—and she technically wasn’t old enough, as she was a year younger than her on-screen daughter Bea Arthur. After the jump, a video of Sophia’s best one-liners from season one of The Golden Girls. [NPR]

Quote Of The Day: Rue McClanahan Admires Blanche

    Blanche Devereaux

“Blanche is a role model. She’s free. She follows her own rules and moves to her own drummer. She had a wonderful, optimistic outlook. She was sort of like Scarlett O’ Hara, saying, ‘Oh, well, tomorrow is another day.’”—Rue McClanahan on The Golden Girls’ Blanche Devereaux
