Krispy Kreme and Glamour U.K. have teamed up to create a limited edition doughnut for the magazine’s 10th anniversary. Based on the signature Original Glazed doughnut, the Glamour Glaze is finished with a sparkling glaze in shades of hot pink and purple, tasting of strawberry and black currant, respectively. In an apparent bid to win over the droves of geeks and sleek tech lovers salivating over the iPad, magazine publisher Condé Nast plans to tailor the content of a few of its mags to work with Apple’s soon-to-be-released digi-tablet. Glamour, The New Yorker, GQ and Wired are the test magazines for the project, with April’s issue of GQ as the first to be fully digitized. Don’t know about you, but we’re pretty thrilled to hear this. Because the iPhone screens were far too small to compete with the look and feel of a real magazine and the Amazon Kindle and its peers aren’t even colored, this is the first time we’ll be able to see a really viable digital alternative to a traditional, bulky magazine. Now we can only hope that Vogue will make an iPad appearance before too long!

Michelle Obama is doing her part to save the struggling magazine industry by appearing on the cover of Glamour for its December Women of the Year issue. Editor in chief Cindi Leive writes on Glamour‘s website that the magazine is honoring the first lady’s “commitment to mentoring young women.” On the inside pages, Michelle is pictured with seven interns from the East Wing, and she gives women advice for reaching our goals:
“I was blessed throughout my entire career. I had people rooting for me. It started with my parents, but it extended to almost every teacher that I had. When I was a young lawyer, there were other women and men in the firm who took me under their wing. Look for those mentors, because sometimes mentors don’t find you — sometimes you seek them out. Oftentimes, they’re flattered and glad to lend a hand.”
You say you want a revolution? Change is afoot at Glamour after the magazine has received tons of PR from its “shocking,” controversial decision to show a semi-nude plus-size model in their September issue. (Actually, they had shot gorgeous blonde model Lizzie Miller nude in the mag before, but this time, they showed a more “unflattering” angle highlighting her belly and the media went wild!) Naturally, bloggers had plenty to say on the matter, and Miller and Glamour editor Cindi Leive even made an appearance on “Today” to talk about how their readers were overjoyed to see a woman who wears a size 12-14 in the mag. Now it seems they’ve decided to milk the publicity stay true to what readers want by shooting another feature with plus-size women for the November issue: A “Page Six” tipster says famous curvier models like Kate Dillon, Jennie Runk, Amy Lemons and Crystal Renn are all involved. While a mainstream mag like Glamour certainly won’t influence hyper-haute fashion mags like W and V, they do have a huge circulation. Today, Glamour‘s know-it-all guy-about-relationships, Jake, thinks us gals put on certain acts to attract men. Now, I’m willing to cop to having tried out a few flirting tactics here and there—but to me, morphing into a girl I’m not, just to snag a dude, was never in the cards. How freaking exhausting. It’s hard enough being me sometimes, why the hell would I try to be “outgoing-dancing-on-the-bar-because-I’m-sooooo-fun” me? Or “that-should-have-been-a-foul-go-Celtics” me? I just don’t think most of us out there are that contrived in our date-me ploys. And if you are pulling this BS, well, you ain’t fooling anyone, most of all the male species (or this Jake character and his bros). What do you think of these five ladies? Miley Cyrus has to promote “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” which is projected to earn $1 billion, so what does she do? She heads to Glamour for her first women’s magazine cover. Forget the fact that the movie is rated G and, therefore, way off target for Glamour‘s readers. And, instead, question what 16-year-old Miley has to say to women. Despite the title of the cover story, “America’s Most Famous Girl Grows Up,” Miley sounds like the typical teenager and gives an interview that would have been more appropriate for Seventeen. The April issue of Glamour features a pretty awesome spread of current female stars channeling icons in women’s history. My favorites? Alexis Bleddel as Rosie the Riveter, Hayden Panettiere as Amelia Earhart, and America Ferrera as Dolores Huerta. Some of the choices were more pop culture oriented (Lindsay Lohan as “Like A Virgin” era Madonna, Emma Roberts as Audrey Hepburn), while others were kind of random (Odette Yustman, Spencer Grammer, and Rumer Willis as “The Women Of Woodstock?”). Of course, had they devoted more pages to the feature, there were other women’s history icons I would have liked them to show, but maybe that’s because we’re devoting the whole month of March to National Women’s History Month, so I’ve got cool, kick ass women on the brain.
