New mom Kourtney Kardashian was spotted in Miami this week wearing a fabulous printed mini dress, retro sunglasses, and a pair of gold knee-high gladiator sandals. I’m totally feeling the wild choice of footwear, especially (or maybe only) for a day out in Miami, but they’re definitely a lot of look. What do you guys think? Are Kourtney’s sandals a perfectly bold style for a boldly stylish city, or just too much? [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
Neils Peeraer is a student at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Art — one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world (and the alma mater of Martin Margiela!). It’s also where the Antwerp Six — designers Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs and Marina Yee — attended school, and it’s generally considered an incubator for cutting edge fashion. And yet! Cutting edge fashion does not often translate to wearable design, as in these Japanese sandals-cum-gladiator-boots by Peeraer. We’re not sure if we should be serving tea in them, or fighting evil forces. Somehow both seem like a possibility. [Antwerp Fashion] Keep reading »
Listen up, kids. There’s a reason we hound you about using protection. This is what happens when two trendy styles mate recklessly: bastard offspring. Say hello to Topshop‘s gladiator jelly sandal, a lonely fashion that will likely never find its place in the world due to identity crisis issues.
What do you say? Could you adopt a pair of gladiator jellies? Or think it should be one or the other? [Topshop] Keep reading »
If these Nike gladiator sandals were a person, they’d be the middle-school bully who beat up all the wimpy gladiator sandals from last season. They’re the brainchild of Art Center College design student Nancy and were created for Nike’s Remixed and Recut hybrid footwear line for Summer 2009. Hybrid is the perfect word to describe the sandals. They’re perfect for hitting the pavement while shopping or sightseeing, but they could transition to night with the right mini-dress. Sadly, they’re sold out. But if you love them as much as I do, you’ll keep checking Colette in hopes of scoring your pair. [Fashion Indie] Keep reading »
I’m generally against gladiator sandals, but this girl pulls them off. Maybe it’s because you can’t quite tell she’s wearing them since they extend up her ankles, blending in with her skinny jeans. [Trender Bender] Keep reading »
It seems like every young female celeb — from Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale, to Nicole Ritchie and Jessica Alba — has been spotted in gladiator sandals. But like another footwear trend that started in Hollywood and spread across the country like the plague (Uggs), we’re not sure we want these shoes to leave California. Yet gladiators are hitting stores from Gap to Urban Outfitters. While they make a statement, why do we need that kind of ankle support if we’re not fighting for our lives in a colosseum?
