In addition to being the best of friends, Sirs Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are both legends of the stage, and they are sharing that stage in two productions on Broadway, “No Man’s Land” and “Waiting For Godot” (both plays also star Billy Crudup and Shuler Hemsley). Ami and I had the opportunity to go see “No Man’s Land” (written by Harold Pinter) last week and loved it. Stewart and McKellen star as two elderly writers who meet at a pub and then spend the rest of the evening drinking (a lot) and talking. Their dude bonding is interrupted by the arrival of two younger men, and all of their connections to each other are exposed. It’s a play that uses language, word play and, most of all, timing to inspire laughter. And we’re giving away two tickets to see “No Man’s Land” to one lucky reader! Prize details, rules and entry form are after the jump! Keep reading »
This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed home and The Frisky’s little piggies all have a chance to win “The Heat” and some other awesome flicks for a girls night in! Okay, so it doesn’t rhyme, and we don’t care … you shouldn’t either.
Anyway, to celebrate the October 15 release of “The Heat” on DVD, we felt it was only right to give some of our oh-so-talented fans a chance to take home the Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy hit — plus some other awesome movies perfectly paired with PJs, pals and popcorn (okay, or wine).

It’s that time, folks! After receiving tons of tweets about your favorite “Funemployment” activites for The Frisky’s “New Girl” Twitter Contest, we’ve selected three lucky winners (who all happen to be from Cali, coincidentally)!
Here’s whose tweets earned them “New Girl” seasons one and two on DVD… Keep reading »
Heyyyy Girl, whatcha doin? Oh … winning “New Girl” Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD? That’s what I thought.
To honor the quirky, Nick-lovin’ school teacher we all know as Jess Day (aka Zooey Deschanel), we’re tipping our hats to her brief period of unemployment in between teaching gigs AND giving you a chance to take home the first two seasons of the hit FOX show!
During her “funemployment,” Jess tried her hand at being a shot girl, a haunted house zombie, and best of all, her boobs “didn’t have to go to boob jail every day.” Keep reading »
Last week the Frisky staff trooped down to Union Square for what’s being called NYC’s hottest new musical, “Murder Ballad.” The rock musical explores a love triangle between a married mom with a party girl past, her doting NYU professor husband, and her sexy bartender ex-boyfriend — and just like the title warns, ends tragically. Attention Ryan Gosling fans! Have you seen the actor’s latest movie, “The Place Beyond The Pines”? Of course you have. Chances are you’ve seen it twice, like I have, in which case you’ve noticed that in addition to being a totally fantastic film starring America’s favorite leading man (along with Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper, and directed by Derek Cianfrance), the film has a killer soundtrack. In addition to the movie’s score by Faith No More’s Mike Patton, the soundtrack features tracks by Vladimir Ivanoff, Arvo Park, Bon Iver, and Ennio Morricone — and one lucky reader will receive a copy of the soundtrack on both CD and vinyl, along with a “Place Beyond The Pines” T-shirt (um, need) and Klipsch In-Ear Headphones. Last night, The Frisky staff took a little field trip to Times Square to see the new Broadway play, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” which is, of course, based on the Truman Capote novela of the same name. (There’s also a little movie version starring Audrey Hepburn that you’ve probably heard of, but the play stuck closer to the original.) Starring the drop-dead gorgeous Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryan on “Game of Thrones”) as Holly Golightly and Cory Michael Smith as Fred, the play, like the novella, is based during the ’40s in the midst of World War II, and tells the story of the infectious and charming, but ultimately untethered Holly and the wide-eyed neighbor who gets wrapped up in her mysterious life. Clarke and Smith are both fantastic in their roles, with Clarke — who also sings a bit for the role — especially putting her own spin on the iconic character. Also! The costumes by the legendary Colleen Atwood are stunning, Holly’s cat “Cat” is playing by a real, live adorable feline, and there’s a full-on nude bathtub scene between Holly and Fred that was worth the wait. All in all, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” was an engaging and moving staging of a beloved classic. And the best part is? One lucky reader will win two tickets to see the play on Broadway, as well as dinner at Glass House Tavern in NYC. Find out more about the prize and how to enter after the jump! Keep reading »
40 feels like a long, long, long way off for me. But if Leslie Mann’s very funny midlife crisis in “This Is 40″ is even the slightest bit real, your 30s go by in a flash! Judd Apatow’s newest comedy stars his real-life wife and Paul Rudd reprising their roles as Pete and Debbie from “Knocked Up.” They’re facing down 40 — and all the health, career, and family drama that goes with it— whilst still feeling like a clueless 22-year-olds inside. But hey, if I have a cute hubby, two snarky kids, and a sweet house at 40, can’t say I would complain! Four lucky readers will score their own copy of “This Is 40″ and a $50 giftcard to SpaFinder.com — sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon to me. Find out how to enter our sweepstakes below!
