Amanda Berry, Gina De Jesus, and Michelle Knight, the three women who spent a decade in captivity in Ariel Castro’s Cleveland home, have released a video on YouTube thanking their supporters for their prayers and donations. They also thanked the world for respecting their privacy after they were finally discovered and freed in May, and asked for that continued respect as they rebuild their lives. [YouTube]
Sometimes terrible things happen, and they’re so unbelievably heinous, all you can do is gasp in horror. That’s the general response most of us have had to the harrowing story of Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus — three women kidnapped, chained and held against their will in Cleveland, Ohio, for a decade. But oh, that’s not what Rush Limbaugh did. Instead, on his broadcast last night, Rush decided to wax philosophical on what it all means. You see, Rush Limbaugh watched an episode of “Hawaii 5-0″ last night. It was about kidnapped and murdered women who were used in a welfare plot. And in between contemplating his lonely, sad, dessicated existence, Rush conjured up a tacky ass conspiracy theory about the Ohio kidnapping victims.
It goes something like this: What if the Ohio “victims” were actually part of a huge welfare scam. And also, they all voted for Obama, so you know! Basically, this whole thing is just what happens when you elect Obama! And these chicks are just welfare queens waiting to happen! He also helpfully points out that the women get “double welfare benefits if one of the women has a baby,” after noting that one of the women, Amanda Berry, did, in fact, have a baby — a child she had after being raped, likely by Ariel Castro. “I tell you what you do, give it to them. Because if folks been following this case since last night, you been following me since last night, you know I got a job anyway. Just went picked it up, paycheck. What that address say? Where are them girls living? Right next door to this paycheck. So yes, take that reward and give it to — that little girl came out the house and she was crying.”
– Charles Ramsey, the most famous neighbor in America right now, told Anderson Cooper that he’s not interested in accepting any reward money for his part in helping to save Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight. Ramsey heard Amanda Berry’s cries and helped her, her daughter Jocelyn, and her fellow hostages, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, escape from the house in which they’d been imprisoned for the last decade. If you thought the twisted details of the Cleveland case ended with yesterday’s news of reported sightings of naked women in Ariel Castro’s backyard, well, steel yourself: New reports reveal Castro bizarrely and brazenly inserted himself into the search for one of the missing girls. The latest:
- The AP reports that Castro physically aided in the search for Gina DeJesus, going so far as to hand out fliers with the 14-year-old’s photo and perform at a musical fundraiser held in her honor. (DeJesus’ uncle played in bands with Castro over the last two decades.) Read more on Newser…
Yesterday, we showed you two amazing interviews with Charles Ramsey, the man credited with helping to save three women (who had disappeared a decade earlier) from his neighbor’s home. The unguarded and inadvertently hilarious interviews with Ramsey — who absolutely exemplifies why if you see something, you should say something — has somewhat distracted from the very serious news story, that these three women had been held captive for a decade, and that their discovery, release and relative good health considering the circumstances is nothing short of a miracle. Now, more details are emerging about the horrifying conditions these three women – Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight — withstood while allegedly imprisoned by three brothers, Ariel Castro, Pedro Castro, and Onil Castro. The Castro brothers are expected to be formally charged today. Keep reading »
You guys, meet my new hero in life, Charles Ramsey of Cleveland, Ohio. Charles was just minding his own business, eating some McDonald’s, when he heard a woman screaming for help from his neighbor’s house. He called the police — who he said didn’t take him seriously initially — and then decided to kick in the door to the house, eventually freeing two women, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus. The two women had been missing for nearly a decade each, as was a third woman, Michele Knight, who was was found nearby with the alleged kidnapper, Ramsey’s neighbor Ariel Castro.
Ramsey is now being heralded as a hero for taking matters into his own hands and responding to Berry’s cries for help. In addition to bravely saving lives (all three women seem to be in good health), Ramsey also gives an amaaaaaazing interview, and he has some harsh words for Castro. “You got some big testicles to pull this off, bro,” he told a local news reporter in the clip avod. “I barbecue with this dude! We eat ribs and whatnot!” Seriously, you think you know a person… Keep reading »
