Today, after work, Amelia and I are going to the Gilt City Warehouse Sale, where all the stuff you normally see on Gilt will be available to touch, try on and buy at deeply discounted prices — up to 90 percent off. We here in The Frisky offices love Gilt — so much so that we gabbed all about it on CNN. New York City’s Gilt City Warehouse Sale is this weekend, May 4 and 5th. Plus, there’ll be one happening in Austin, Texas, as part of Austin Fashion Week, on May 9 and 10; one in San Francisco on May 17th; and a final sale in Los Angeles on June 7th. The good (i.e. dangerous) thing about Gilt sales is that they liquor you up with Prosecco, vodka and wine, and feed you snacks while you shop. Not in or near any of the Gilt Warehouse Sale locations? Never fear — the series will start up again in September across the country. [Gilt City]

Stuff I Buy On Gilt Groupe Keeps Breaking [UPDATED]

I love, love, love Gilt Groupe, because I am a lazy person that loves to shop. And there’s nothing more lazy than online shopping. Gilt usually has a good assortment of designers, and semi-reasonable prices. Over the past couple of years, I’ve purchased several things from them, including a 3.1 Phillip Lim blouse, a Tracy Reese cardigan and a pair of great Faryl Robin wedges. If I count it all up, I’ve probably bought around 10 things from them, but of those, three items have fallen apart just weeks after buying them. Keep reading »

Frisky Staffers Shop Gilt Groupe On CNN

This shouldn’t come as a shock, but the majority of us at The Frisky are a little obsessed with online shopping. Personally, I way prefer shopping from the comfort of my desk or couch to fighting the crowds at department stores or New York City’s SoHo neighborhood, which has come to basically be an outdoor mall. In particular, we’ve sung the praises of online sample sale sites like Gilt Groupe because they sell mid-to-high-priced designers’ labels at discount prices that you can’t find in stores. When Gilt Groupe has one of its final sales, work at The Frisky comes to a screeching halt for about 15 minutes, as a bunch of us go apes**t, trying to get the items we want — in the correct sizes! — in our basket as quickly as possible. CNN recently came by The Frisky’s offices to film this “shopping frenzy” in a segment that aired on “American Morning.” Check it out above! [CNN] Keep reading »

Target Is Partnering With Gilt Groupe — Sales Start Tomorrow!

You know how Target tries to make its designer collaborations seem exclusive, but oftentimes only one or two pieces from a given collection are drool-worthy? Well, the super retailer is trying even harder to sell you on the idea that these collaborations offer “luxury” items at an affordable price. Target is partnering with Gilt Groupe, an online shopping site that offers discounts on designer brands, to offer the designer collections before the garments hit Target stores. Keep reading »

Gilt Groupe Expands Home Selection

If you’ve outgrown thrift store couches and dollar store home decor but don’t want to pay full price for fancy furnishings, today’s your lucky day. Gilt Groupe, the wonderfully addictive shopping site, is expanding its Gilt Home offerings to 15 sales per week from more than 200 brands, including Cuisinart, Ligne Roset, and Missoni Home. Prices will be low — up to 70 percent off retail — but since everything, from furniture to art, is for sale, you’ll probably end up spending more than you would on a trip to Ikea. For those of us who don’t have room for another armchair, smaller accessories and gourmet food are for sale, too, and I can attest that this stuff makes for great gifts — my mom got a set of candles from Gilt for Mother’s Day. NYU Students Dream Up Your Next Shopping Addiction

Watch out, Gilt Groupe. There’s a new sample sale site launching and fashion lovers will be just a teensy bit obsessed with it for one major reason. Instead of offering last season’s wares like so many discount stores and sites, ToVieFor plans to sell designer items from the current season’s collections. Two students at New York University’s Stern School of Business, Melanie Moore and Susanne Greenfield, created the website and were just awarded $75,000 in prize money for their invention, though you’ll have to wait until summer for the site to launch. You can expect sales prices 40 to 70 percent off current season handbags and accessories from brands like Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton, and Marc Jacobs. But here’s the catch: In order to place a bid, users are required to pay between $1 to $5 for each session (the site combines members-only and dutch-auction sale styles). But what’s a dollar when you’re saving on designer goods that aren’t sooo last season? [ToVieFor via NY Times] Keep reading »
