So Father’s Day is this weekend, as well as my dad’s birthday, and the only thing he says he wants is flip-flops. Fortunately, my dad is a pretty easy guy to shop for, because you could get him anything and he’d still feign like he loves it. Socks! Off-brand polo shirts! Gloves! No puppies, though — my mom and I learned that the hard way. As much as I imagine there are many dads out there like my own, who would rather be told “why don’t you just do whatever you want today?” (drink Red Stripes by the pool — hey dad!) than receive a material gift, there’s also dads who like stuff. I like to call this stuff dadcessories: wallets, watches, cuff links, some cool, casual man jewelry, etcetera. Here’s my roundup of ten fabulous, affordable gifts for the dad who’s into a little bit of embellishment.
Father’s Day is around the corner, and we’ve got all the best products to pamper and relax your dad. Remember all those years he put up with your horrible music on long car rides? Or the time he installed that bookshelf in your college dorm? How about all those times he helped you move? Yeah, your dad deserves a treat!
Show me a woman who doesn’t love a spa day and I’ll show you a woman who is lying (or a robot, it has to be one or the other). In fact, I’ll bet every man would love a good spa day, too, if they’d just quit it with the preconceived gender notions. Whatever, man! You need a pedicure! Anyway, this Sunday is all about our moms, so there’s no better occasion for giving her a reason to pamper herself, if only for a day. Moms are notoriously high-strung and nerve-wracked (uh, maybe just mine? Anyone?), so these gifts will give her a damn good reason to relax and float downstream.
It can be hard to shop for our moms — they always claim that they don’t want nor need anything, which really doesn’t leave us with many options. So what do you get for the woman who has everything? Beauty products, duh. Your mom might be the earthy type who isn’t interested in makeup or material possessions … and she’s probably better for it. But for the rest of them, the ones who, like us, can’t wait to get their hands on the latest product or are always researching the latest anti-aging innovations (regardless of how often you tell her she doesn’t look a day over 25), the possibilities are endless. Whether your mom is a lipstick girl, a bonafide beauty aficionado, or just a lady who loves a great scent, we have a gift for you. She’s going to love it.
Disclaimer: I have very little interest in Valentine’s Day. I’ll admit, the idea of it is nice, and the Valentine’s cup from Starbucks is maybe the cutest thing ever, but my appreciation for the “holiday” ends right about there. I never even really think about it, and when the day rolls around, I’m none the wiser. However, this year I’m beginning to rethink my position, only because there are so many lovely love-y things that I want, and wouldn’t Valentine’s Day be the perfect time for me to receive them? Wink wink, nudge nudge, and all that; boyfriend, ye be warned! I’ve put together this handy guide of essentially foolproof gifts that I think (almost) any woman would love to receive. Whoever you’re buying for, you know your girl better than I do, so exercise judgment when deciding on presents (for example, if she has arsonphobia, candles may not be the best choice). Read on!

You know what I kind of hate? Stuff. Sitting there, requiring dusting, storage, packing when I move. Getting rid of unwanted, unbeautiful things is practically a hobby of mine. Do you still want that gold unicorn figurine? Because I really want to donate it to Goodwill so I don’t have to look at it anymore.
And Christmastime is the season of stuff. We all receive mountains of random crap from those ridiculous office Secret Santas, shirt-tail relatives and well-intentioned others. A framed print of dogs playing poker for the art snob! Cheese and meat trays for the vegetarian! Jingly, jangly earrings for the un-pierced! So, let’s save ourselves some embarrassment, a bit of wrapping paper and a trip to the returns counter and give the lovelies in our lives some consumable, usable non-stuff this year. Here are 10 to get you started… Keep reading »
When it comes to holiday shopping, we have two big goals: 1) Make sure we get something unique and special for everyone on our list and 2) stay on a budget! With that in mind, The Frisky and BuzzMedia partnered with Virgin Mobile to hunt down rad gifts that cost under $35, which, by the way, is how much Virgin’s unlimited data plan costs for their three new Android devices. (And there’s no contract! Oh, happy day!) In the video above, our own Amelia shares two of her favorite gifts to give this holiday season. Find our more about where to buy them, after the jump!
