Get Nailed With Miss Pop: Waiting For Lightning To Strike

It was a dark and stormy Monday night… Before Sandy took my electricity, cell reception, and internet connection, I painted my nails with this look. I was inspired by that quietly terrifying moment, right before the storm, when the sky feels like an ominous crystal ball.

My heart goes out to all the people who have lost what cannot be restored. For those of us who can return and rebuild, I wish you a speedy recovery. And a big thanks goes out to all the volunteers, medical staff, and government workers who have kept us going.

For this ombré pyramid and clouds look, I used Maybelline’s Audacious Asphalt and painted two coats on as the base color. Then, I made the ombré pyramid with Deborah Lippmann’s Stormy Weather and the metallic peak is Color Club’s What A Drag. Then, I swiped each side of my nail diagonally with Essie’s Licorice. For the clouds, I dabbed on Essie’s Chinchilly. The key to creating the ombré effect, as you might remember from this tutorial, is to apply the polish with a makeup sponge. For the clouds, I used the skinny side of the sponge, for the pyramid, I used the wide base.

Ex-boyfriend going extra cray? Roommate riding your nerves like a pony? Boss man keeping you down? Ward off the haters with evil eyes! For my gurl Dana here, I added an acid wash denim design and nail art bullion studs so she would look like a force to be reckoned with. Just talk to the hand, and it says, “Bitch, please!”

Summer Nail Color Picks

This summer, I’m all about the studs. And not just the shirtless ones at the beach (although I would also like to get my hands on some of them too.) For my beauty expert buddies at Lifebooker, I bedazzled some series nail hardware. Check out editor Anna’s done up digits— hope she’s not going to try to get through an airport metal detector with these.

Here’s how you can have this hawt #GetNailedWithLB look! Paint your nails as per usual. Then bust out your nail art striper and draw lines across your nails where you want to stud.

To apply the studs you will need an orange stick, a base coat, a nail art sealer or bonder top coat and some studs you can find at a beauty supply store. First, coat your nail with your nail art sealer or bonder topcoat. Then, tap the tip of your orange stick into the basecoat brush to pick up a bit of polish. Next, tap your stick onto the stud to lift it up and place it down on the nail. Coat your nail again with the nail art sealer or bonder and boom! Your nails are more metal than Ozzy. Check out some more studded nail art styles above!
