I have been plagued — yes plagued — by skateboarders since I was in middle school. That’s when I first became friends with/attracted to skater boys. It’s also when I first became acquainted with the stultifying boredom of sitting around waiting for your friends to finish up at the damned skate park so you could go to the movies or the mall. Ahh, the loneliness of being one of a couple of girls that was part of the skater boy posse. Yes, I knew who Ricky Oyola was and could attest to the fine-ness of Mike Vallelly, but watching your buddies hit their balls over and over again while trying to grind on a handrail wasn’t that fun. It’s Get A Hobby Week here on The Frisky, so today we’re craving something to do that produces something we can keep. Oh, perfect, how about this cross-stitch iPhone case and kit?! I am a hobby kind-of-girl. As in, I very much enjoy them and have dabbled in a lot of them. Over the years, I have joined both bowling and pool leagues. I’ve gotten into scrapbooking, as a way to preserve memories of life and keep records of the best articles I’ve written over the years. I’ve learned how to Rubik’s Cube. About eight months ago, I started taking improv classes. And more recently, I embarked on a photography mission, using my camera less for photos of friends and more for artfully composed shots that I then print and hang in my cubicle.

There are three hobbies in particular that a guy can have that are guaranteed to make me consider him a candidate for the (still open!) position of “Future Baby Daddy”: surfing (moan!), cooking (swoon!), and anything involving wood (faint!). You will find those hobbies on the sexy side of this approval matrix of dude hobbies. (Please note that my idea of “brawny” is anything that’s mostly physical in nature. “Artsy” applies to anything that’s, duh, art-related and/or nerdy or intellectual. Just so we’re clear.)
