George Clooney Announces Haiti Telethon, While Barack Obama Pens Newsweek Piece

The reports out of Haiti today continue to be horribly grim. Survivors of Tuesday’s mega-earthquake desperately need food and water, and relief aid teams just can’t get it to them quickly enough. Search and rescue teams are frustrated, and bodies continue to pile up in the streets. In the meantime, folks stateside are figuring out what we can do to help. It was just announced that Barack Obama will be penning the cover story for Monday’s issue of Newsweek, discussing the disaster and how we can all pitch in. And George Clooney is organizing a telethon to raise money for the relief effort—the special will air on Jan. 22 on ABC, NBC, HBO and CNN, as well as on all of MTV’s channels. Who knows what famous friends he’ll bring along on the air with him. [Huffington Post, Newser] Keep reading »

Peer Pressure: Go See “Up In The Air”

When I first heard about “Up In The Air,” it sounded a lot like “The Terminal,” only with George Clooney instead of Tom Hanks, which is an instant, mega-upgrade. Now that the flick from 32-year-old writer/director Jason Reitman (“Thank You For Smoking,” “Juno”) has been out for a week, everyone is going “Up in the Air” crazy. It has already been named Best Film of 2009 by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures—which means it’s essentially the “Slumdog Millionaire” of 2009. The movies the Board of Review picked the last two years (“Slumdog” and “No Country for Old Men”) both got Oscars for Best Picture. The movie has also received Best Actor (George Clooney), Best Supporting Actress (Anna Kendrick of “Twilight“), and Best Adapted Screenplay. Keep reading »

George Clooney Dies, Returns To Life

A-list Hollywood actors do cheesy ads abroad for mega-bucks, hoping no one in America will see them. Too late, George! In this spot for Nespresso espresso, Clooney, who plays an espresso drinker, hangs out with John Malkovich, who plays God, natch. The surreal spot was directed by Robert Rodriguez, who directed “Spy Kids” and “Sin City.” It’s kind of weird to see Michael Clayton hawking espresso, but I’ll take my George however I can get him. Can Tattoos Make You Ugly And Trashy?

There are few things men complain about when ogling George Clooney‘s Italian girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, in a photo spread on Maxim.com. But what would life be without complainers? Several people posted comments saying Elisabetta, or Eli, as she is sometimes called, ruined the beautiful landscape of her body with tattoos. One commenter put it this way: “Tattoos can turn the most beautiful woman from ‘classy’ to ‘trashy.’” So what do you think on the subject? Would Elisabetta, and women in general, be prettier without the tattoos? Let us know in the comments. Keep reading »

(Another) Quote Of The Day: George Clooney, Our Relationship Guru

“I’ve had some absolutely great relationships and some not so great relationships. I’ve been in some relationships where I’ve felt terribly alone. Just because you’re with someone it doesn’t mean you’re incredibly happy and complete.”

George Clooney talks relationships with the Daily Mirror. Sorry, you’ll have to get in line to complete him behind me. Keep reading »
