Ellen Shares Her Wedding To Portia With Her Audience

Does this seem like a couple that should have ever NOT had the same right to get married as Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, Larry King and his bazillion wives, or any other couple in the universe for that matter? Keep reading »

Obit: Del Martin, Lesbian Activist

In very sad news, Del Martin, the lesbian activist who was finally able to marry her life partner, Phyllis Lyon, in June, has died at the age of 87. Martin and Lyon were the first lesbian couple to be married after California lifted the ban on gay marriage. It’s so bittersweet that she was able to marry Lyon before her passing — and infuriating she wasn’t able to do it earlier. [AP] Keep reading »

Gay Marriage & Christianity: Not Always At Odds!

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi just tied the knot last weekend officially making gay marriage trendhunter worthy. But according to Professor John Boswell, the former chairman of the history department at Yale University, gay marriage is an old-fashioned institution getting a new page in the history books. The Ivy League teacher has done extensive research on homosexuality throughout the ages and discovered that early Christians, including the Pope, were so cool with same-sex committed relationships, they even adorned their churches with frescoes of sweet man love. A painting found at St. Catherine’s Monastery in Mt. Sinai, Israel, depicts two early Christian Saints, St. Sergius and St. Bacchus, getting married back in the 4th Century, with Jesus as the best man. Accounts of their sainthood, up through the 10th Century New Testament, openly united and acknowledged them as “lovers.” But they’re just the tip of the gay Christian iceberg! Keep reading »

Hallmark To Sell Same-Sex Marriage Cards

Hallmark, the nation’s largest greeting card company, is rolling out four same-sex marriage cards in response to consumer demand. The cards, which feature two tuxedos, overlapping hearts, or intertwined flowers are neutral, with no actual mention of weddings or marriage, so they’ll still be suitable in states where same-sex marriage hasn’t been legally recognized — every one but Massachusetts and California. While it’s wonderful that such a huge corporation is recognizing this group, the cards won’t necessarily make it into all Hallmark stores, as each can choose whether or not they want to add the cards to their selection. So, if a Hallmark’s store owner is against homosexuality, his customers might not have access to these cards, kind of like how some pharmacies refuse to fill birth control prescriptions because their owners don’t agree with their use. Ellen Asks John McCain To Walk Her Down The Aisle

One last thing on the subject of Ellen Degeneres and her upcoming wedding to girlfriend Portia de Rossi. The talk show host had Republican Presidential hopeful, John McCain, on her show last week and asked him straight up about his views on gay marriage (he’s against gay marriage as well as civil unions). It was a civil discussion, handled well by both, but we really give Ellen a hand for asking the tough questions. Maybe she should host a debate during the election! Keep reading »
