Lo and behold! Relentlessly weird and always goth-y designer Gareth Pugh has jewelry in his arsenal, and this Scythe ring looks as if it could really do some damage — if that’s what you’re looking for in a weapon-ring. Forget brass knuckles! This season, it’s all about the finger scythe. If you’re not clear on the concept, a real scythe is a gardening tool that has a long, curved blade on the end of a wooden handle. If you were standing in high grasses, you could swing your scythe and whack down the foliage. The Pugh scythe is hand-sized and has a (looks like) leather-bound metal handle. The curved part fits between your fingers. It seems a bit … awkward, no? But also cool. Only $137. Thanks to AnOther magazine, Gareth Pugh, and Incase, now not only your 3G phone but also your 13” MacBook can be swathed in designer products. Because obviously your Apple products need some fashion love, too. The laptop holder is made from thick PVC, with quilted satin inside. It retails for 76 pounds, which is basically $121; the iPhone case, however, is slightly more affordable at 53 pounds or about $84. Up to you whether your device has been good enough to deserve designer goods.

Beyonce: Fashion-Forward Robot

At last night’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool, U.K., Beyonce’s alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, performed her song “If I Were A Boy” in a Gareth Pugh dress. Look closely, and you’ll notice that her left hand has some sort of robotic-looking metal covering on it. [I once saw a porn where the chick was wearing something very similar on her hand and it seemed kind of dangerous. -- Editor] While I certainly have no place to wear an outfit like this, it seems rather appropriate for an MTV awards show, and the dress is actually quite flattering on Beyonce’s curvy figure. I don’t think the outfit went well with the performance though. The song is slow and ballad-like, and when she stepped onstage wearing this futuristic ensemble, I was expecting a crazy techno version of it.
