Kate Spade has it out for me.
That is the only possible explanation why they could have hired Garance Doré, a French style blogger and photographer, to design pieces for their fall line. Doré’s whimsical doodles are all over dresses, bags, and even an umbrella and iPhone case. The prices are as WTF as Kate Spade prices usually are, but that Joie De Vivre shirt is so damn cute I might just go searching the couches for loose change.

When it comes to the fashion industry size debate, even we admit that as much as opposing sides keep launching rockets, it often feels like a peace treaty will never come to be. After seeing such incremental changes towards a healthier body standard, we sometimes feel like raising our shoulders and saying, “So what are you going to do?” You get a wave of “normal” or “plus-sized” fashion shoots that get good press, but the attention is often treated as a trend and an unsettling novelty that only recedes back into the shadows once the hype dies down. It’s undeniably frustrating and disheartening.

As of late, fashion blogger and street style shooter Garance Doré has added videos to her repertoire. Many of her videos so far have focused on runway shows, the behind the scenes action, and the models strutting down the catwalk. In her most recent installment, “A Month in Fashion,” she gives a peek at her life as a fashion blogger, traveling around the world to fashion shows, frequently in the company of her fiance, fellow style blogger Scott Schuman, aka The Sartorialist. It’s stylish, sweet, and romantic. [Garance Doré] Keep reading »
As we get further and further into 2010, hairstyles are shifting to the side. (Examples: The ubiquitous side-swept hair at the SAG Awards this past weekend and all the side-updos and hairstyles at the spring 2010 fashion shows, especially at a certain Mr. Alexander Wang’s show.) Now French street photographer and illustrator Garance Dore is finding women with a genius and very easy way to DIY the trend: side braids. Simply braid your hair to one side of your head and let it rest on your shoulder. The more unfussy and mussed-up, the better. This is my new morning go-to hair. And you don’t have to have insane-o long hair (à la the chic girl, above)—this looks cute on shoulder-length hair, too! [Garance Dore]

Fashion blogger Garance Dore posted this pic to her Twitter account with the caption: “Bloggers have broken the double digits: 9 year old now front row ! (And working!)” Wow … if this trend continues, toddlers are going to be writing Vogue editorials. Is this for real? [Garance Dore’s Twitter] Keep reading »
