Should Some People Not Wear Shorts?

“Put some pants on!” this ad in the window of a Gap store declares. “Because we can’t all look good in shorts.” The provocative ad has inspired a controversy. The Huffington Post wonders if it’s “Offensive Or Clever.” The woman who took the photo of the debatable ad is journalist Stephanie Marcus. “Another day, another ad that tries to make people buy their products by making you feel bad about your body,” she writes. “What’s even funnier is that in another window,” she continues, “GAP is advertising for their Jeggings and not everyone looks good in those either, but as long as GAP can sell them to you they don’t really care.” I, myself, avoid going out in shorts. I guess you could say that’s my prerogative — or maybe I’ve been brainwashed. What do you think of the ad? Offensive? True? Both? Weigh in on the great pants vs. shorts debate in the comments. Are These Baby Gap Mannequins Too Sassy For Their Own Good?

This Baby Gap store window display in NYC caught our eye and we just had to snap a pic for your review. Yeah, the jeans are adorable, but the girl mannequin appears to be midway through a pelvic thrust (do babies have that kind of coordination?) and he’s popping enough collars to be initiated into a frat without even dealing with hazing. Beyond that, those are some, uh, slender babies, no? They may be headless, but we have difficulty picturing much baby fat on top of those model-esque bodies. Baby Gap has certainly come a long way since the days of our youth when jellies were the height of kiddies’ fashion … Keep reading »

Cheapskate: Gotta Love The Gap

Last week, I sauntered into the Gap to escape the heat and to check out the sale section. Once again, Gap didn’t let me down and somehow I walked out of there with a shopping bag full of sale goodies. While the items weren’t truly remarkable, they are staples, like a striped oversized T-shirt and T-strap sandals, that will go with a number of things I often wear. Everything at the Gap goes on sale eventually, so I checked out the website to see what other staples had been reduced. I’m really excited about a number of these items because they can be worn in so many ways with a change of accessories or shoes. See what I found after the jump. Keep reading »

Get Stella McCartney’s Fancy Panties At Gap Prices

Remember days of the week underwear? (We were the girls who could never get it right and were always wearing Tuesday’s panties on a Thursday. So rebellious.) Stella McCartney has famously brought back the cute idea with her beautiful lace knickers of the week that come in a charming chest of drawers package. Problem is, it’ll cost you $195 to keep your butt covered for seven days. The good news is that Ms. McCartney has done a cheaper version of the fun underthings for Gap. The $38 set features colorful cotton instead of silk but still retains the look and style of the originals. Full disclosure: You’ll find them in the Gap Kids section, which we’ve been known to pick from on occasion. Just look for the L or XL sizes! [Journelle.com, Gap] Keep reading »

A Soft Denim Shirt Resurrected From The ’90s

Trend alert: denim button-ups are on the up-and-up. We’re seeing this ’90s style come back through all of our favorite retailers. While we scratched our heads and said, Huh? at first, we’re now kind of digging the look, which strays from the preppy Ralph Lauren aesthetic of yesterday and now seems vintage and model-perfect. Our pick: this chambray western shirt from the Gap which, with its strategic wear-and-fade details, looks like it just might have come out from the back of your closet. We’re crushing on the western-style piping and buttons, but think this shirt would be best worn without the cowboy boots (avoid the cliché), and instead with some heels and a high bun.

Get Rid Of Your Old Jeans For A Good Cause

We know you own a lot of denim. So when you tire of those blue jeans, don’t just throw them in the trash. Gap recognized the fact that many people own multiple pairs of jeans, which adds up to a huge waste. So, in an effort to reduce and reuse, the brand teamed up with Cotton Incorporated to help the charity, Cotton: From Blue to Green, which takes old denim, turns it into UltraTouch Natural Cotton Fiber Insulation, and then donates it to those in need. From today until March 14, drop off your jeans at 1,000 stores in North America and Puerto Rico to donate your old jeans to a good cause. Of course, you’ll not only feel good about your charity work, but you’ll also receive a shopping incentive–30 percent off your next purchase of jeans! [WWD] Keep reading »

The Gap And Keds Collaborate For American Fashion Domination

The Gap and Keds are as American as capitalism and the Electoral College, so it’s about time the two fashion entities get together to create a line of all-American footwear. The shoes will be designed by Gap’s Patrick Robinson and will be right in-step with the faded denim and pastels that will be big this summer. (Don’t worry if you’re more of a glam girl, because Keds has also teamed up with Alice + Olivia for a limited-edition sparkle line.) There’s no word regarding prices of the Gap-inspired line, but the shoes will debut in the summer most likely at a pop-up shop in NYC, which means they’re sure to hit eBay shortly after for those of you in other parts of the country. Pierre Hardy For Gap: Is The Third Time The Charm?

When the first pair of Pierre Hardy shoes for Gap launched, I rushed to the store, assuming that I’d be in love and willing to part with almost $100 for said designer shoes. But I left Gap that day sans new shoes, dejected and disappointed at the collection. Then, editors obsessed over the fur-lined boots for winter, and I got excited yet again, but just like Erin, was completely let down by their look in reality. Now the shoe master has created another collection, and with this, I’ve finally given up. Three strikes and this collaboration is out for me. For summer 2010, Pierre Hardy designed three wedge styles and one flat denim gladiator pair, and here’s a first look at three of the four. From what I can see (and I hate to say it), the leather on the first pair looks too plastic-y to be worth the money, and the second is just plain boring. If I had to choose, the third could be a good option, but again, that price tag is too hefty. Hopefully the gladiator flats will bring some favorable light to the collection. If unlike me, you’re loving these shoes, head to Gap on May 4, when they will be available for $98. [Actually, gotta say I am kinda feeling them this time! I just love a platform sandal. -- Editor] [Couture Snob] Keep reading »
