I’m surprised to see Gabby Sidibe on the cover of Elle‘s October issue. Magazines like Elle aren’t known for putting plus-size women on the cover. I think she looks pretty, but not everyone agrees. A blogger for Clutch thinks Gabby’s skin looks lightened and that her weave looks messed up. Specifically, “The weave looks like an old used up brillo pad that has seen too many greasy pots and too many anti-humidity products.” Ouch. It’s hard to tell if Gabby’s skin was lightened — hope not — or the giant-ass lights were just reflecting off her face during the shoot. Anyhoo, I still stand by what I said: She looks pretty to me. Um, can “The Big C” be on TV right now, please? This show looks awesome. And I’m not just saying that because Laura Linney says to Gabby Sidibe with a straight face, “You can’t be fat and mean, Andrea. You can either be fat and jolly, or a skinny bitch. It’s up to you.” Never before have I thought I’d actually want to watch an entire TV show about cancer. [BuzzFeed] Keep reading »
Drop what you’re doing! Yes, put … the muffin … down. Before you do anything else today, you simply must read Kate Harding‘s kick-ass takedown at Broadsheet of the Hollywood diet industry’s vulture-like attempt to swoop down on “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe and get her hooked on diet pills.
AcaiSupply.com made headlines yesterday by offering Sidibe a year’s supply of acai berry weight loss pills. An extremely rude letter from AcaiSupply’s CEO to the actress claimed, “After viewing recent pictures of you strolling around Santa Monica earlier this week … we at AcaiSupply.com have decided we can no longer sit back and keep our mouth’s [sic] shut! … the only way you can reach your goal of someday winning that Oscar is by being active, fit and most of all healthy!”
Excuse me while I throw up in my mouth a little. Keep reading »
On paper, the new movie “Precious” doesn’t sound like much fun: It’s the story of a 350-pound, illiterate black teenager impregnated for the second time by her dad and physically and verbally abused by her mom. It’s enough to send a girl galloping into the next showing of lighter fare like “Couples Retreat”! But the film industry buzz for “Precious”—from the illustrious Cannes Film Festival to this week’s cover of The New York Times Magazine — says the film is not to be missed. There’s even buzz about an Oscar for Mo’Nique, who stars as Precious’ monstrous mother, as well as accolades for the rest of the cast, including Mariah Carey, Paula Patton, Gabby Sidibe, and Lenny Kravitz. “[The media] try to paint the picture that I was this downtrodden, ugly girl who was unpopular in school and in life, and then I got this role and now I’m awesome. But the truth is that I’ve been awesome, and then I got this role.”
