“Friday Night Lights” Headed For The Big Screen!

Hallelujah! “Friday Night Lights,” which just ended its five season television run a few weeks ago, is coming to be the big screen, possibly as soon as 2013. Creator Peter Berg confirmed the rumor, saying that the movie would pick up when the show left off and would center around main characters, Coach Eric Taylor and his wife Tami. That would mean the divine Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton would be back for the film, but it’s still up in the air how many of the show’s more popular cast members/characters would join them. After all, in the series finale, the Taylors moved to Philadelphia, leaving Texas behind. I can only hope that somehow Berg and his fellow writers find a way to get a little Tim Riggins action in there. Assistant Coach? Taylor family pool boy? Whatever. 10 Things You Didn’t Know About “Friday Night Lights”

It’s hard for me to process the fact that, tonight at 9 p.m., one of my favorite television shows will be coming to an end. “Friday Night Lights” has been brilliant since minute one and, five seasons later, it has remained a joy to watch. The norm for a high school show is for it to move at a rapid clip, with oodles of plotlines being thrown out and resolved each episode. But, in part because of the show’s focus on the Taylor family, “Friday Night Lights” has always unfolded slowly, taking time to build both its plots and characters. A single plot could linger for an entire season. See: Julie’s affair with her married TA and the return of Vince’s convict dad.

After tonight’s finale, “FNL” will be going off the air, only to be seen only in syndication on ESPN. And it’s shocking to me how little fanfare this fact has gotten. I mean, I know it’s awkward since many people have seen already finale (it aired earlier this year on DirecTV and also, the season five DVD is already out) but still, people, this is it! I’m glad other bloggers are having as hard a time with this as I am. Over at The Awl, Sarah Blackwood says a teary goodbye to the show and at Survey Monkey, fans are rating everything from the show’s hottest characters to its best bromance. There’s a lot to love about “Friday Night Lights,” a TV show about so much more than just high school football. My interest in the show was initially sparked by the sight of Taylor Kitsch, sweaty and shirtless, but it struck an unexpected chord with me. I came for the hot guy— I stayed for the honest and realistic portrait of long-term monogamy and lessons on leadership and compromise. I don’t know about you, but I sure am feeling refreshed after having July 4th off. Still, even though it’s a short week, so much is happening in the pop culture universe. Some of the most exciting happenings of this week: the series finale of “Friday Night Lights,” which makes me sad because I honestly could have watched this show for another five years; the release of “Horrible Bosses,” which, in addition to “Bridesmaids,” could make this one of the funniest summers on record; and the sequel to Push landing on bookstore shelves, which lets us know what happens to Precious about 10 years later.

Ahhhhh, what a wonderful magazine cover. When I walked to the newsstand today and saw Kyle Chandler’s face staring at me with his gruff, signature, “don’t you know how to throw a football” look, I felt instantly compelled to buy the June issue of Men’s Journal even though, well, I’m not the target audience. Kyle, who stars in “Friday Night Lights” isn’t the type of actor you see on magazine covers often, so I’m pumped that Men’s Journal decided to go with him. Crush Of The Day: Grey Damon Of “Friday Night Lights”

There are very few people I hate in this world, but the person who decided to give DirecTV first-run rights to the final season of “Friday Night Lights” is on my permanent s**t list. Knowing that there are people out there who have already seen how things end up for Coach and Tammy Taylor, Buddy Garrity, and, most importantly, Tim Riggins, before me keeps me awake at night. Or it used to. This weekend, I managed to hunt down the entirety of “FNL” season five on this great thing called THE INTERNET and promptly fell down a Dillon, Texas k-hole. I don’t want to give much of anything away (and urge “FNL” fans who do have DirectTV and have seen the show’s final season to do the same), but I will tell you that while I’m disappointed Riggins, so far (I just finished episode three), does not have much screen time, I am hot for a new member of the East Dillon Lions. “Wonder Woman” Revealed: Who Is Adrianne Palicki?

We’ve been hearing about David E. Kelley’s reboot of “Wonder Woman” for months now, with the exception of one vital fact—who will be playing the all important title role. We suggested everyone from Katy Perry to Christina Hendricks, but it looks like Kelley had his eye on someone else—Adrianne Palicki of “Friday Night Lights.” Adrianne is supposedly the only actress he tested for the role, and we highly approve of this choice. Adrianne has the right dark hair/blue eyes look, and we have a feeling she can kick some serious butt. Plus, Lynda Carter agrees—shortly after the casting announcement was made, she tweeted, “Congratulations Adrianne!” [Huffington Post]
