French Vogue Wants Your Little Girls

It’s not unusual for little girls to have an innocent romp in their moms’ closets every once in a while. But what happens when the closet they’re romping in happens to belong to French Vogue? French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld must have really wanted to go out with a controversial bang. In the latest issue of the fashion magazine, the outgoing editor included a fashion spread–called “Cadeaux,” which means “gift” in French–starring a bevy of way underage girls, all dolled up like come-hither Lolitas. It’s no surprise that young models sell magazines; just look at the latest crop of Eastern European model teenagers for proof. But still, it’s a little unsettling to see a band of 8-year-olds decked out in high-class couture, mimicking older, more experienced women. And what’s really shocking: the designer clothes seem to hug the bodies of these little girls, making us wonder just who these clothes were really made for, anyway. Check out a couple more images from the spread after the jump–and tell us what you think. [Gawker] Keep reading »

Looks Like Carine Roitfeld Didn’t Exactly “Resign” From French Vogue

We like to think that we are nice people. So when we heard that French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld was leaving her job for bigger and brighter things, we didn’t second-guess her, but instead said, “Yay! Good for you! Have fun! Mazel tov!” Just because we’re nice like that and aren’t going to make any accusations. Not that we weren’t thinking them … Racked is reporting that there’s quite the rumor going around about Carine’s departure … Keep reading »

Carine Says Au Revoir To French Vogue

Today’s big fashion news: Carine Roitfeld, super skinny French woman and editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, has just announced that she will be leaving her post after January. In the 10 years she’s held the position, Roitfeld has become a style icon in her own right, so, understandably, some are a bit shocked to see her stepping away from such a powerful position. Her reason for leaving? She says she wants to focus on personal projects and says that “it’s time to do something different.” We totally get that feeling. In an economy where people should be “thanking their lucky stars” if they have a job, we often forget about our own personal growth and desires. Obviously, Carine is in a professional and financial position that allows her the luxury to just walk away from a job, but the mentality is something to remember—everyone needs change in their lives and it’s OK to walk away from a good thing from time to time. Julia Is Pretty In Purple

Turns out when you’re the daughter of French Vogue‘s editor-in-chief—like Julia Restoin Roitfeld is—you get to do all kinds of cool stuff like star in your own Lancome ad. We’re actually loving the dramatic purple eyeshadow and matching nails! [The Cut] Keep reading »

Crystal Renn Eating In French Vogue: Gross Or Glamorous?

French Vogue‘s 90th anniversary issue continues to shock. The editorials inside include this sure-to-inspire-debate series of plus-size model Crystal Renn gorging on squid, slathering herself in spaghetti, and putting away a plate of chicken. To up the controversy, the photographer is Terry Richardson. Personally, I like the photographs — I think they’re beautiful and sort of funny — and after having watched and read multiple interviews with Renn, I find it highly unlikely she’d agree to do it if she wasn’t on board with it. Check out more after the jump and speak your mind in the comments. Keep reading »

Lara Stone Goes Topless For Vogue Paris

For Paris Vogue‘s 90th anniversary, model Lara Stone took off her top to expose her decolletage. How to know the masked beauty is her? We’d know those gap teeth anywhere. The massive issue has 622 pages that editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld promises will be as provocative as ever: “Vogue Paris has always played the card of audacity,” she told WWD. Soon enough, they’ll probably do without the clothes altogether. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

A Look Inside The Home Of French Vogue’s Ed-In-Chief

It’s always fascinating to take a peek into the homes of the fashionable, because they’re normally great eye candy. Here’s a look at French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld‘s Paris apartment, which is shockingly stark. Sheesh, we knew Parisian women were all about wearing classic black and being reserved, but Roitfeld’s home takes the idea to extremes with super minimalist decor, a color palette so bland you could be watching a black and white movie, and boxy modern furniture. It’s definitely a high-concept way to deck out your home that some might call the epitome of chic … but would a touch of color kill ya? You’re in Paris, for Chanel’s sake!

Would you like to live in an apartment decorated like this? Check out a few more images after the jump. [Oak Blog] Keep reading »

Natalia Vodianova Is A Goth Fairytale Princess

Natalia Vodianova‘s photo shoots seem to always tell an interesting story. This time she appears as some sort of a goth and glamorous fairytale princess with fiery long red hair in April’s Vogue Paris. We’ve always been partial to that look. [Fashion Copious]

Stop The Presses! Carine Roitfeld & Balenciaga At War!

Apparently, fashion icon and famous editor of French Vogue Carine Roitfeld has been “blacklisted” by Balenciaga. Reports WWD:

They were barred from the show. ‘We’re blacklisted,’ Roitfeld said with a shrug at Nina Ricci later in the day. ‘It’s too bad, it’s a beautiful house and it’s French. I hope that it’s not forever.’ She noted Balenciaga no longer advertises in the magazine or lends it clothes, but stopped short of giving any reason for the rift. ‘Ask them,’ she offered. A Balenciaga spokesman declined comment.”

Quel scandale! If anything, it seems only the reverse situation would occur, where the almighty Vogue would cut off a relationship with a designer. Maybe they were offended by Carine’s pantsless behavior?

In other random Carine news, her mag threw their Fashion Week party last night in Paris and had a special cocktail in honor of Roitfeld called “Carine’s Tea Time.” In it was vodka, green tea syrup, and a minty/floral water. Hey, Carine, is that low-cal? Sounds kind of tasty. [WWD, Twitter] Keep reading »

Frisky Charticle: The History Of Pantslessness

French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld is my mom’s age. So why in God’s name is she going pantsless in lace tights and hooker boots, forcing us to be sick all over the place? I don’t care what people say about age being just a number, 55 is far too high a number for this Lady Gaga-esque behavior. In an effort to come to terms with a former icon’s decline, we’ve constructed a highly scientific chart tracing the progress of pantslessness through the last four decades. It won’t be easy, but taking the journey from ’70s roller girls all the way up to Carine is cathartic somehow. Keep reading »
