Thierry Mugler To Launch New Fragrance: Womanity

The reclusive designer Thierry Mugler has emerged from the shadows to announce he will be launching his first fragrance in five years, and it’s called Womanity. We wrote about the Womanity website here previously, which rants on about the invisible bond between women, something, one imagines, that is supposedly embodied in this scent. According to WWD, “womanity” is “a made-up word meant to associate with femininity, humanity and city.” What any of those things have to do with each other, and why commodified feminism is being used to sell perfume, I don’t know. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Mugler’s fragrances — I wear Angel Rose and Alien on a regular basis — but I don’t need some pseudo-gender politics to get me to buy it. Reportedly, Womanity smells of figs and caviar, and it will be available online in June for $58 an ounce. [Styleist] Keep reading »

Eva Longoria To Launch Perfume (Despite Being Allergic)

Up until now, if you asked Eva Longoria Parker what her signature scent was, she’d probably sneeze in your face. Sensitive to fragrances, Eva has taken to the chem lab to create a perfume of her own (called Eva by Eva Longoria—not the most original of names, but to the point) that won’t bother picky noses: “I have always been somewhat allergic to all perfumes and really wanted to create something that every woman could wear. So I decided to create my own fragrance that is light, fresh and unique. I think the scent of a woman is extremely sexy and this scent will prove that.”

So what does an allergy-neutral perfume smell like? The eau de toilette contains hints of citrus, bergamot tea, jasmine, and freesia, and it’s due out this spring. Just in time for hay fever season! [WWD] Keep reading »

Figure Out Which Fragrance To Buy With Sephora’s Scent Samplers

Finding a new fragrance is a daunting task. I can never figure out whether I’m willing to commit to a scent after wearing it around the store or smelling and re-smelling a scent strip. To help indecisive perfume-buyers pick a new eau de something, Sephora has come up with a pretty genius concept. For $50 to $75, you’ll get a kit of deluxe perfume samples that includes fragrances like Stella McCartney Stella Eau de Parfum, DKNY Be Delicious Eau de Toilette, Kenzo FlowerByKenzo, and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. You can take your time (why not try wearing a different scent every day?) before redeeming the included voucher for a full-size bottle of your chosen fragrance. The kits are available for either men or women, and they’d make a great gift if you want to get someone a new fragrance but don’t have the nose for choosing one. [Sephora] Keep reading »
