Frisky Q&A: Gwen Stefani Talks Harajuku Lovers Fragrances & Being A Working Mom

Gwen Stefani will launch five more Harajuku Lovers fragrances, called Wicked Style, Nov. 1. This time around, G and the Harajuku Girls — Love, Lil Angel, Music, and Baby — are back in Tokyo on Takeshita-Dori, a pedestrian-only street where fashionable people go to chill, and are dressed in fashions that originated in Japan — gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, visual Kei, Kawaii, and Omotesandō girl. Gwen loves building a story for her Harajuku Girls perfumes as much as she enjoys creating perfume bottles that double as works of art. But what’s it like to create five fragrances at a time when it takes other celebrities years to create just one? A few other bloggers and I had the chance to chat with Gwen backstage at her L.A.M.B. spring 2011 fashion show, where she talked about the new Wicked Style fragrances, being a mom and designer, and her personal beauty choices. “I’m not Tom Ford in terms of the grooming and the knowledge of clothes and the precision and perfection of getting dressed. There’s nothing I can wear in this ad that isn’t going to look ridiculous. At one point, I tried jeans and a shirt, and it didn’t work. So then Juergen said, ‘Take off the clothes. So I did, and that became the ad … I did feel good about the way I looked, so it was easy and—well, a guy looks better to me with no clothes on than with clothes! How’s that?”

Ashley Greene Isn’t The Only Big Thing Happening At Avon

Your Avon Mark catalog will no longer arrive with fresh-faced Lauren Conrad on the cover because “Twilight” star Ashley Greene is the new ambassador of the Mark brand. If you’re not familiar with Mark, then maybe Ashley will convince you to try the affordable cosmetics when her TV and prints ads launch this fall. But she’s not the only newbie arriving at Avon.

Paris Hilton Releases New Fragrance. Will You Buy It?

Paris Hilton has unleashed a new fragrance upon the world: Tease. Did you know this is her tenth fragrance? I am not lying when I tell you that I had not even registered that she had any eau de Paris on the shelves. I must have skipped that aisle at Wal-Mart. (For the record, that is not a Wal-Mart diss. I love Wal-Mart. You may find me in its aisles.) In any case, our favorite socialite channeled Marilyn Monroe for the Tease campaign. “I got to dress up like my idol Marilyn Monroe, and we ended up with some great photos,” Hilton explained, “She’s always been such an inspiration to me.” Personally, Paris is my inspiration. How Many Chemicals Are In Your Perfume?

My perfume routine varies. Some days I’ll spritz a fragrance in the air and walk through it for a slight essence, and on other days I’ll dab my wrists for a longer-lasting scent. Thanks to a new report from the Environmental Working Group, however, I’m going to have to double think my perfume routine — and my chosen fragrance — because the amount of chemicals in beauty counter buys are a tad disturbing. There are a total of 3,100 chemicals that perfume makers can play with in order to create a scent, and apparently companies are not required to list out ingredients of perfumes, just cosmetics. Perfumes contain an average of 14 chemicals that never get spelled out on product packaging. One specific synthetic chemical, diethyl phthalate, has been linked to sperm damage in adult men and abnormal reproductive organ development in baby boys. Other ingredients may result in hormone disruptions and allergic reactions. Keep reading »
