Fox News contributer Liz Trotta would like to clear up a few things. First of all, when she spoke on the Pentagon’s decision to officially open up more combat positions to women and said women in the military should “expect” to be raped by their male comrades, she “certainly did not” mean all military men. Just most of them! Okay, okay, just some of them. Well, that part isn’t clear either. The point is, men have testosterone, “testosterone rules,” ipso facto, testosterone makes men rape-y. Whatcha gonna do?

But anyway, this discussion is all besides the point. The real focus of our ire here should not be on Liz Trotta, Liz Trotta says. It should be on feminists and The New York Times

Oh, if only I were making this up. Keep reading »

Violent sexual assaults in the military have increased by 64 percent since 2006, according to a recent Pentagon report. Let me repeat that number: 64 percent.

But few days ago, Fox News contributor Liz Trotta made it clear she doesn’t consider this to be a valid problem. “Now, what did they expect? These people are in close contact,” said Trotta, who also dismissed the Pentagon’s new support programs for sexual assault victims as a waste of money: “I thought the mission of the armed forces was to defend and protect us, not the people who are fighting the war.”

Ex-Marine Sarah Albertson is not having it. Albertson, who served as a Security, Governance, and Economics Analyst in the USMC from 2003 to 2008, wrote an open letter responding to Trotta’s inflammatory remarks and has created a Change.org petition calling for Fox News to fire her. Says Albertson: “Nowhere in my enlistment contract, not even in the fine print, did I agree to sexual assault as a part of the job.”

fox news gender neutral housing
Watch Video

I can’t even deal with the stupidity in this clip of the “Fox & Friends” hosts discussing Grinnell College’s new “gender neutral housing.” The living space will be for students who choose to live with others regardless of gender, including transgender/gay/lesbian/no gender, and it was spearheaded by the transgender students on campus. This is pretty cool, right? But while discussing Grinnell’s new housing, host Gretchen Carlson decided to pull out her “facts and figures,” as she put it, saying:

“In the fall it went up 18 percent. Eighteen percent of transgender students going to this college [sic]. Does that sound unusual to you? Eighteen percent? I didn’t know it was new trend.”

First of all, you’re speaking in fragments, not sentences, Gretch. Second of all, what are you talking about — what is “it”? What went up 18 percent? The number of transgender students? The number of LGBT students? The number of students interested in gender neutral housing? And did she seriously just suggest whatever the “it” is that she’s referring to is a “new trend”? As if young adults living their normally-closeted lives open and honestly is trendy?

Oh, yes. And it gets worse. Keep reading »

Feminists Can’t Get Laid, Say Ladies On Fox News

“After decades and decades and decades of feminists burning their bras, saying, ‘Make more money than men, do this, run over men, have sex like a man, tell your man what to do, don’t let them open the door —’ they’re not happy with the product, are ya ladies? A lot of them are older, they’re not married, and they’re not getting you-know-what.”

— This is “Fox News” talking head Andrea Tantaros on a program called “The Five,” explaining that the real reason you should let a man pay for dates is so you don’t become a shriveled-up sexless spinster.

Later in the segment, when another panelist says that some men enjoy treating a woman, Tartaros exclaims, “That’s how men are designed!” Her colleague helpfully chimes in, “Let a man be a man! Don’t turn him into a eunuch! Gee, we don’t need any of them lying around!” Yikes. I feel sorry for any man who dates these women and is forced to act out her gender role fantasies, rather than choosing them for himself. For the record, all the feminists I know are getting plenty of “you-know-what,” regardless of who pays on dates! [Media Matters For America via Feministing] Keep reading »

Megyn Kelly On Fox News’ Anchor-Babes & Their Short Skirts

megyn kelly photo

“Roger [Ailes of News Corps.] is very good at finding attractive people who are also interesting and smart. But you have to be careful what you’re looking at. Some on-air talent have objected that some websites will Photoshop the skirts and make it seem like the women were wearing something more like a belt than a skirt. Don’t believe it unless you’ve seen it live.”

— This is Megyn Kelly of Fox News in Marie Claire responding to the question “Would you agree that Fox has cultivated a reputation as a stomping ground for news babes? YouTube is filled with videos of Fox anchors wearing really short skirts.” Obviously, she is not going to bite the hand that feeds her and criticize Fox News for putting an army of pretty blondes like herself on air. And no one agrees more strongly than me that writing off something a woman says just because she is attractive is sexist BS. However! Let’s get real here. This Photoshop story is quite rich, not to mention she totally dodged the question. I have no doubt in my mind that you can find all sorts of NC-17 pictures of the ladies of Fox News which have been Photoshopped by the 16-year-old boys of America. “Don’t believe it unless you’ve seen it live” is the most creative answer ever, though. Maybe our TVs are deceiving us and there is some mass optical illusion at play? [Marie Claire] Keep reading »

Megyn Kelly Defends Maternity Leave In Unlikely Feminist Fox News Moment

Something, dare I say, feminist happened over at Fox News yesterday! Anchorwoman Megyn Kelly schooled her guest, jerkface/conservative talk radio host Mike Gallagher, for calling her three months’ maternity leave a “racket” on his radio show. You know, maternity leave — that time a woman takes off work to recuperate after an 8 lb. human being passes through a vagina. Yeah, what a racket that is. At least Megyn Kelly is able to have a sense of humor about with this goon, who is very, very worried that the status quo privileges he enjoys as a white dude are being infringed upon. If a man asked me, seemingly in earnest, “Do men get maternity leave?” — and that’s a direct quote — my jaw would hit the floor. I am not usually a fan of Fox News or Ms. Kelly, but I have to give her a sisterly tip of the hat on this one. (However, the Family and Medical Leave Act guarantees up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave, so it’s not exactly something America should be proud of. The United States joins Papua New Guinea and Swaziland in countries that don’t offer paid maternity leave.) [NJ.com] Keep reading »

Bill O’Reilly: “Many Women Who Get Pregnant Are Blasted Out Of Their Minds When They Have Sex”

Birth control should not be covered without co-pays as part of preventative health care, Bill O’Reilly says, because “many women who get pregnant are blasted out of their minds when they have sex, [so] they’re not going to use birth control anyway.” He introduces this Fox News segment while talking about pot and booze and says covering the Pill would cost four billion dollars a year (um, can I get a source on that?) and suggests improving access to birth control will “maybe” cut back on the number of abortions, foster care, and people on welfare.

First of all, WHAT? Second of all, WHAT WHAT WHAT? Keep reading »

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Tweets Punched Woman Maybe “Deserves” To Be In A Coma

Megyn Kelly, WTF are you thinking? Regarding a tragic news story in which a NYC man punched and put a woman into a coma over a disputed parking space, the Fox News correspondent posted the tweet above this afternoon.

Maybe she deserved it? Maybe violence against women is OK? Maybe violence against strangers on the street is OK? Maybe putting someone in a friggin’ coma is OK? Let’s all pray to God this was the ill-conceived tweet of a stupid Fox News intern, not grown-ass Megyn Kelly who should know better than to speculate someone “deserves” to be beaten into a coma. Shame on you. [Twitter, Gothamist] Keep reading »

Sit down … wait for it … this news is going to be mind-blowing: sexy female news anchors distract male viewers and render them unable to process the content of the news, according to a study published in the journal Communication Research by two Indiana University scholars.

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly On Flaunting Her Legs For Journalism

“Well, it’s a visual business. People want to see the anchor.”

—”Fox News” host Megyn Kelly‘s response to a comment from a GQ reporter that “you sit behind a glass table that shows off your legs.” Interestingly, this segues into a GQ reporter asking Megyn if she is a feminist. Let’s see what Megyn has to say, after the jump.
