Much has been written about the new Forever 21 in New York City’s Times Square, but here are the deets one more time: four floors, 90,000 sq. ft., 151 dressing rooms, and more cheap fashion than most teen girls can fit in their closets. Clearly, it goes without saying that this is a store that’s not safe to visit if you’re a person who hates crowds or desires a calm shopping experience, as Forever 21 will be overrun with tourists, ransacked clothing displays, and lines that never end. But that’s not all. The real shocking news comes thanks to the visitor statistics, which attest to the fact that this Forever 21 is going to be a claustrophobic’s hell. While the Statue of Liberty welcomed 14,000 people on a daily basis last July, Forever 21 is expecting to see 100,000 shoppers walk through their doors. Every. Single. Day. Talk about terrifying. The only saving grace is that the store is open until 2 a.m., so if you’re desperate to shop the wares when you’re in town, we’d suggest becoming a night owl. Good luck. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »
A brawl has broken out in a recent post on The Cut blog: about whether or not buying cheap clothes at Forever 21 is a waste of money and a young woman should be building a collection of “investment pieces” instead. They’re fighting because a ginormous, multi-floor Forever 21 just opened in New York City’s Times Square and some aren’t thrilled about the “fast fashion” mega-store.
I’ll cut the first bitch who talks smack about Forever 21 — like, my entire wardrobe comes from there. But shopping there certainly presents a trade-off. Because I have so many $30 dresses and $20 heels, I don’t have any of the “investment pieces” that style books instruct a young woman to collect. I simply can’t afford them! I don’t own a classic Burberry trenchcoat. I don’t own a Prada handbag. I don’t own a real pearl necklace. I do have lots of LDBs — from Forever 21 and H&M, of course.

Cheap clothes, makeup, accessories … and engagement rings? Yes, Forever 21 seems to have expanded their jewelry selection into the wedding world, and is offering an “I Do” ring set, complete with a simple wedding band and a circular cut diamond, accentuated with little stones on each side. Of course, these gems are cubic zirconia, but if you’re looking to get hitched on the cheap, the bling will only set you back $4.80. I’m surprised it’s taken Forever 21 this long to jump into the wedding world. Next stop, bridal wear? [Forever 21] Keep reading »
Not to pull the “SATC” fashion card, but this Forever 21 dress is a classic Charlotte. With a business-chic construction, she’d strut it down Park Avenue in the daytime, but also be able to work it downtown after hours thanks to that sexy mesh collar and peek-a-boo back. What’s one more LBD in your closet? They’re always put to use somehow, whether you’re going for the girly or the girls’ night out.
With the unfortunate trend in slutty prom dresses, an unlikely savior has come in to bring class and grace back to the storied high school event. Forever 21 spent the past year expanding their reach into cosmetics and children’s clothes, but their latest collection of prom dresses really deserves a bit of applause. Where some 17-year-old girls will show up to their proms dressed in cut out gowns and trashy numbers, Forever 21 wants to outfit girls in decadent designs inspired by the 1920s and The Great Gatsby era. A selection of “boutique dresses” from the fast fashion brand includes embellished numbers, flowing designs, and delicate details to help girls stand out amidst the generic strapless dresses and halter designs. The best part is that these dresses are totally reasonable, ranging in price from $27-$40, making each perfect for a night out on the town as well as an evening of prom perfection.
