Big, mainstream brands like J.Crew and Target have done an exceptional job turning their images around with the help of artful styling. In the case of the former, Jenna Lyons and a team of hip stylists create the kind of frothy tableaus you see here and lookbooks to compete with any high-fashion brand, and the latter gets the job done thanks to collaborations with “it” designers like Rodarte. Forever 21 has evolved into a more sophisticated brand as well, attracting plenty of over-21s who want to buy into their sweet, oh-so-sweetly priced trendy goods. We love ‘em! But when it comes to the professional styling game, it looks like this season at least, they have failed. No really. FAIL. [Nitrolicious]

Every woman, no matter what her size or height is, needs a maxi dress in her closet. Most, like this Braided Strap Maxi Dress, have an empire waist or a similar effect. So, if you’ve got a little tummy, it will disappear under the dress. Even if you’re short, there’s no reason not to wear one: The all-over color creates a continuous line from shoulders to ankles, which will make you look taller. Plus, the maxi dress perfectly transitions from spring to summer because it’s a great foundation for layering. Oh, and did we mention this one shows off your back, shoulders, and collarbone, so you’ll look sexy, too?
Forever 21 is already taking over with their affordable fashion and forays into beauty and home design, but now they’ve decided it’s time to bring a bit of designer experience into their stores. In an effort to match their fellow fast fashion brands like H&M and Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 signed a deal with designer Brian Lichtenberg to create graphic T-shirts. Now, we’ll reserve our comments about graphic T-shirts as a whole (ahem, Ed Hardy) until we see them, because Brian does in fact have celeb credibility. Interestingly enough, the brand decided to give Brian creative control over the same clothing item as the celebrities who design t-shirts for Forever 21. Now, will we see designers like Karl Lagerfeld and John Galliano sign up to create their own F21 collabs? [WWD] Keep reading »
Sometimes you just need a little fashion pick-me-up. This is all good, just as long as you don’t let your “treat” turn into an oops-I-accidentally-blew-my-rent-on-a-pair-of-shoes. This Forever 21 t-shirt is the perfect option. A basic with a fun bow detail, it’s just enough to add a bit of newness to your wardrobe this week. (We’d pair it with a blazer and some smart bottoms at the office.) Oh, and it will cost you less than lunch. Wins all around.
For so long the skinny jean has either been uber-hipster or uber-sexy. Now it’s found some middle ground by becoming just a bit boyish, thanks to Forever 21′s construction pocket cut which has been adapted for a tight leg. The flattering back pockets add a little something different too, so maybe, for the first time, you won’t be wearing the same jeans as every other girl in the room. This two-tone cardigan from Forever 21′s Twelve by Twelve line proves our point that black and brown can be worn together. Notice how the taupe-y brown softens the basic black so the complete look has a classic Chanel feel, but the zipper flower pin adds a bit of kitsch. Pair this cardigan with blue or black jeans or a black pencil skirt for a sophisticated, fun outfit. [$29, Forever 21] Keep reading »
