We are loving the major fall trend of fur booties. Whether real or faux, designers of all levels have added fuzzy boots to their fall lineup. We’ve been obsessing over the Christian Louboutin “Toundra” fur bootie for some time now, so when we discovered Forever 21’s faux fur pair, we could barely contain our excitement. What makes this version so great is the color and texture of the faux fur as well as the details it has taken from its higher priced partner: strap and buckle details, the chunky platform pointy toe, and a great shaped sexy heel. A fantastic take on a high-end look. So, tell us — would you wear this trend or do you think it’s one to be left to the Eskimos? [1. Who’s with us when we say that nude tights are just kinda … boring? And yet we definitely have days where we want a natural leg look, but a) don’t want to be freezing without pantyhose and b) don’t want to look like an ice skater or senior citizen. The solution? These quaint Forever 21 sheer tights that add a sexy garter-like printed detail above the knee, and are definitely not boring.
With all of the trends that last five whole seconds, it’s nice to see a designer working with classic color and creating something totally fresh. Giorgio Armani’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection was a sea of navy in many different shades and textures. He mixed chiffon and lace with patent leather, crochet, satin and twill. It is such a wonderfully refined way to subtly play with silhouette that we decided to use one of his looks as inspiration for an outfit you can wear this season. A great thing about a look like this is all of the pieces are ones that can be worn in a myriad of ways. Plus, you probably have half of these garments in your closet already so it will be really easy to reproduce. Don’t like navy? Try this styling idea in browns or grays, using texture and opacity to create interest.

Pity the high school administrators. Their lives just go so sucky. The fall 2010 look book for Forever 21‘s line Heritage 1981 has more suspenders than a Steve Urkel orgy, including with crotch-hugging lederhosen. Lederhosen? Yes, really. Keep reading »
I wasn’t all that shocked to learn that Forever 21 uses fun house-style mirrors and amber-colored lighting in the fitting rooms to make customers look “hot” — “hot” being skinny with flawless skin. (Though I do think it’s unfair to employ such trickery when the return policy sucks so badly.) I started thinking about the last time I was in Forever 21. Jessica dragged me kicking and screaming (not really) to the new store in Times Square. After an hour or so of hunting the four floors, I thought I had some really great finds. You know, stuff that was on-trend, fit my personal style, and didn’t scream Forever 21. I went into the dressing room thinking it was pretty dark … and smelly. I tried on a couple of dresses and some tops, but nothing quite worked. A skirt was a possibility, though. Now that I know about the mirrors, which stretch you taller so you appear thinner, I know the problem wasn’t the clothes. I’m only 5 feet, so I looked awkward and a little too bottom-heavy in a fun house mirror, which was slightly tilted at the top so I felt I was looking up at myself, and I could hardly see anything in the amber lighting. I said no to everything except the skirt, thinking I could always get cheap costume jewelry with my store credit if I had to return it. So instead of making me think I looked hot in the clothes, Forever 21′s fitting room tricks actually made me spend less than I had intended. Fail! [Refinery 29] Keep reading »
Budget-conscious mommies-to-be are surely excited about Forever 21
‘s new line of maternity gear, love21maternity, which is available in Arizona, Alaska, California, Texas and Utah. Finally, cute pregnancy clothes that don’t look like a camping tent! But our friends at The Gloss noticed
something of note: Arizona, California and Texas all have high teen pregnancy
rates. A teen pregnancy counselor who spoke to CNN about the love21maternity line said that seeing maternity clothes in their stores will “desensitize” teen girls towards pregnancy. Sure, California and Texas have huge populations to begin with. But was the decision to sell maternity clothes in a store favored by teens, in places with lots of pregnant teens, a business-savvy decision? And isn’t that kind of — I dunno — icky

The name Brian Lichtenberg might not ring any bells for you, but you’d probably recognize at least one of his designs. Lichtenberg was the genius behind Lady Gaga‘s caution tape ensemble in the “Telephone” video — yes, I too thought Gaga had simply wrapped herself in caution tape, but apparently not. And now he’s bringing his distinctly L.A. look to the masses through Forever 21, which is trying to shed its image as a designer copycat. Forever 21 is taking its first step as a designer resource with a designer who some may feel is a little too difficult to wear unless you’re Gaga, Kim Kardsashian, or Lindsay Lohan — people who feed off attention and publicity. But Lichtenberg says the youthful and more mainstream collection retains his aesthetic yet also caters to the more feminine Forever 21 shopper. Keep reading »
I guess it serves me right for trying to buy denim at Forever 21. But what can I say? I needed new jeans and was trying to be thrifty. Last week Annika, Intern Carli, Intern Lauren, and I hit up the ginormous new Forever 21 in Times Square after work and explored its many cavernous floors. We were looking at duds in one section of one floor when we noticed all the clothes were large-ish; then somebody realized we were in the plus-size section. We headed to the floor below and I told Annika I wanted to check out the jeans. I had to grab a sales associate, though, because the sizes only went up to 10 and I needed something bigger. “Over size 10 will be upstairs in the left-hand corner,” the saleslady told me. “You mean in the plus-size section?” I asked. She nodded. Keep reading »

Much has been written about the new Forever 21 in New York City’s Times Square, but here are the deets one more time: four floors, 90,000 sq. ft., 151 dressing rooms, and more cheap fashion than most teen girls can fit in their closets. Clearly, it goes without saying that this is a store that’s not safe to visit if you’re a person who hates crowds or desires a calm shopping experience, as Forever 21 will be overrun with tourists, ransacked clothing displays, and lines that never end. But that’s not all. The real shocking news comes thanks to the visitor statistics, which attest to the fact that this Forever 21 is going to be a claustrophobic’s hell. While the Statue of Liberty welcomed 14,000 people on a daily basis last July, Forever 21 is expecting to see 100,000 shoppers walk through their doors. Every. Single. Day. Talk about terrifying. The only saving grace is that the store is open until 2 a.m., so if you’re desperate to shop the wares when you’re in town, we’d suggest becoming a night owl. Good luck. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »
